Do you think your tap water is safe to drink?
Posted by Thomas1776 on March 10, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. (Suggest removal) Why is the Charleston Water Authority going around and replacing all water meters when the old ones work just fine and dandy? Many were just installed brand spanking new not more than 2 years ago. How much is all of this costing? What are the prices for these new meters and who authorized them and was compettive bidding allowed prior? It doesn't seem to be a capital improvements in the least. Is there something unhealthy in these old meters that is unsafe to ingest? Doesn't seem to be anything about replacing water meters on their website I can find. I believe they are probably replacing the sight read meters with radio frequency readers. Those allow the meter reader, or if you are close enough a central collection point, to read your meters without someone having to worry about your dog or getting out of the truck to trudge around in your yard and lift meter covers. If that's what it is it's far more efficient. I doubt that they are replacing meters for the fun of it.
