If you didn't read Jim Harper's commentary on Friday, March 28, search Charleston.net for, "Sanford should stand up to fed bullying over Real IDs." This should open your eyes to what the real issue is. Quoting from the article,
"In standing up for the residents of South Carolina, he has a good chance to restore constitutional principles for all states. His constituents are not pawns in a power game." Read it and learn from it!

I hope he sticks with it. I've always been opposed to a national ID card and this is the Fed's way of getting it accomplished. It will be interesting to see if they'll accept our taxes without the "Real ID", since they're going to deny us access to Federal buildings.

I am a resident of SC with a LEGAL green card - all this will do is make it harder for us (legals) to gain access to what we need while the illegals continue to have an advantage plus wanting to gain sympathy.....

This just a stupid new rule that the Bush Administration is trying to stuff down the throats of the country.Remember when our politicians used to make a big deal out of the Russians having to have internal passports to move around?

He says that he does not want to inconveince us with this Id deal. But, if we have to have passports to enter a Fed building or even fly what do you think that means. Inconveince and $$$$$ that we have to pay.

Yes this will cost each of us more money to obtain passports for each
member of the family. I think he does what benefits himself and his family
in many ways.

I'm sure he has a private jet, but it would be great if he and his family got held up for hours because he was to mighty to comply. He won't be in office after this term, so maybe he will :)

Keep in mind Sanford is only enforcing what the state legislature voted on last year - to refuse to adopt "Real ID" because the partial federal funding was only going to cover about 10% of the cost to the state to implement these new IDs.

Remember, it was Sanford who overhauled the DMV. I recently got the renewal stickers for 4 cars in less than 30 minutes. It would have taken 4 hours under the old system.

I'm not saying he's perfect, but Sanford's not the problem; it's the good ol' boy legislators in Columbia. I recently read the "accolades" of one state legislator, and it looks like the only thing he's done is to nominate beauty queens for "queen for a day" to get recognition by the house/senate. Give me a break. There are more important issues.
