Nancy, do not apologize for telling the truth. Sometimes the truth hurts, but it needs to be said. Stand up for yourself and you will have much greater respect from the community.

Parents who are not willing to take responsibility for their children, particularly drug abusers, should be sterilized. I don't see anything wrong with what Ms. Cook said.

About time someone (besides me) spoke up on this outrageous drain on our resources. I'm tired of supporting other people's children generation after generation. That's right, as a middle class TAX PAYER, I've been saddled with supporting other people's children for over forty years. I am proud of Ms.Cook for publicly voicing the truth. If Dot Scott were trully concerned, she would adopt some of these children and put HER money where her mouth is.

I don't like Cook. But in this case I agree with her. The free ride should be over...go to work and take care of your children. IF you are not going to get a job and work like everyone else, stop having babies. If you are not going to raise them right---dont have them. If you are not smart enough to use contraception, dont do the act.

Freedom of speech only works until we get offended? Are you kidding me? I think it is time for the leaders of the naacp to enroll in some type of sensitivity and diversity training. They are very insensitive to ALL of the other races, and they are not very diverse either. Ms.Cook owes nobody any apology and i hope she tells them where to stick their suggestions. And while we are on the subject, is white a color? According to blacks, black women are women of color and i suppose white women are translucent or transparent? Last time i checked we were all sitting beside each other in the crayon box. You know there is always that one broken crayon that doesnt stand up straight like the rest of them. hmmmm.

Before heading out to the state borders protest the stars and bars, the NAACP should apoligize to Ms. Cook for their insensitivity and take a few classes in race relations themselves. The NAACP might consider protesting the Cooper River Bridge run, too. Except for the race leaders, were blacks excluded from running and walking in that sea of white? From all the photos, it certainly looked like the second most segragated place in the low country last Sunday.

It is frequently and often said in private, but no one, no one, in public life has the courage, and financial independence, to talk about the aggregate drain on our societal resources by a 70% illegitimacy rate among African-Americans.

I wonder if the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, or any of the so-called Black Liberation theologians, has ever addressed THAT and, if they have, found a way to blame this too on Europeans, Hispanics, Asians, Jews or the United States.

For those of you who don't see anything wrong with Cook's comment I just wonder what your reaction would be if it were your child she was talking about. Funny that all I ever see on P&C's website in regard to comments is complaints with No Real Solutions offered. What the heck is wrong with all of you people? You have such hard hearts. All I can say is that with the same measure you judge other's you will be judged. Education is, indeed, a great equalizer, but it is not offered to everyone the same. Walk into each school in Charleston County & discover what the discrepencies are. Also take into account the neighborhood in which it is located. Want to do somethhing PROACTIVE rather than reactive? Become a MENTOR. There are many programs avaialable in this area that any of you could volunteer with, for as little as 1 hour a month. Sterilization is a good solution and the legislators should get on the ball with it. Send a quick email to your legislators and Congressman today and print a small sign to tape to your car rear window "STERILIZE WELFARE QUEENS" to let people who are anti-welfare know you are too.

Anymore the charleston schools are not for thoses who learn now the kids dont like the way you dress you get beat up or kids are carring drugs and weapons even in private schools no the kids now adays are looking for that easy buck anyway they can get it Also do you know how many ladies (and i use that word very lightly) come in my office looking for work and have three kids in tow? And I cant ask them not to bring them and during the interview I cant ask if they have a sitter for them . they leave how am i to know they really want the job or they are just satisfying thier commitment to the goverment to seek out three jobs that week

Unfortunately we all know and even dot scott and the naacp knows that this sterilization would never happen, her comments although truthful display the frustration of hard working tax payers of all colors the drain these "individuals" have on our society and resources allowed for those who truly need it,
people forget the wonderful idea that Fritz Hollins proposed years ago, if you are receiving any assistance, you should receive random drug tests, people chastized him, but unfortunately some of those same people or their "heirs " are people dot scott trys to defend time after time, gets old...

What I heard from the audio clip was Ms Cook just throwing out some ideas, which is alot more than anything the NAACP has done for the poor having children. Nothing about race was even mentioned. I do agree something needs to be done and to not say anything about it is an insult to we who are forced to pay for them. I also agree those in the leadership of the NAACP need sensitivity and diversity training. Maybe the KKK leaders would join them and they could learn together.

this ms cook said nothing about any specific race. there are white blacks and mexicans getting pregnant and living off of welfare.

every where you go you see young mexican girls with two or three kids one in an infant carrier about 6-7 months old and 5-6 months pregnant that is the crap shes talking about

women who expect the state to hand them a check for having babies
all she meant was limit the number of kids they can have based on hat they can afford. as many of these womens kids will end up in the system any way.

like the fools who have been busted with large amounts of drugs recently

Also glad some focus is put on teen pregnancy. Now lets really look at who is having these babies... Study said most are teens of mothers that did the same. And I bet you look at Grandma she did too. I'm truly amazed. I wonder how many of you folks have a concept of what "welfare queen" life is like. I'd surely like to watch you try it for a week. The whole problem started when LBJ and congress decided that for moms with children to be eligible for welfare, there couldn't be an adult male living in the house. This rule provided great disincentive for black families to stay together. The men were underpaid because of the racism that was rampant in 1964. The moms couldn't get help to feed their children unless the men left. This as much as anything else led to the dissolution of the black nuclear family.

I think she's right. Why should we (the ones who work for a living instead of mooching off the goverment) pay for the irresponsibilities of others. You should have to get a license to have a child just like you do to get married. If you can't afford to pay the doctor bill and hospital bill then you don't get a license. If you have one anyway then you get NO WIC, FOODSTAMPS or disability for your little b******. Some people have kids and then claim some weak disability like A.D.D. as a reason to be paid to sit on their ass. I feel sorry for those who REALLY need it and cant get it because of all the moochers and cheaters. How the heck are people on food stamp FAT? I see them all the time with a buggy FULL of groceries while I have to make do with my small bag of stuff while trying to get by. If my tax BURDEN was smaller I'd have more $ for MY children! BTW, my son attends Fort Dorchester and it has it's share of crappy teachers, including a math teacher that regularly tells his students he's quitting and doesn't care if he fails 70% or more of the students. He's demonstrated he cant teach regularly. S.C. schools are all FAR below standard and no one in goverment will do anything about it.

The Majority of people on Welfare are White not Black. Yeah the NAACP is worthless and I am African- American, but your viewpoints on this blog, for the most part, are as backwards as theirs. The drain on resources for the most part come from White women who are having children out of wedlock. What kind of nation would we be if we went around sterelizing women because they are poor be they black or white? Let's deal with poverty, and that means education, but we live in an America that doesn't care about education which means it doesn't care about its children. We don't care about our seniors (look at social security). This is how we will be measured in future generations. We live in the greatest country on Earth, and therefore we can and must do better.

When I look around and see African-Americans (who was the last relative you had from Africa) they move like turtles. Go to a fast food place or Walmart. Most have no ambition. Thats why so many are for Obama, one out of millions that has some ambition. Too bad he doesn't have a record of having DONE anything for anyone. But I'm off topic. There should be a license to have children, just like a marriage license. If you have a child out of wedlock, then YOU pay the bill, not us tax payers that work hard to PROVIDE for OUR children! Try accepting EBT cards at the birthing clinic. I see fat people with EBT cards and the cart is FULL of food. No one on assistance should be FAT!
I do agree about the comment about our education system though. We need someone to set standards and start raising them. We also need to make sure that EVERYONE makes their children BEHAVE appropriatly in school too. That the PARENTS responsibility. MY child has NEVER distracted others from their opportunity to LEARN.

How many times have I been in a checkout line at a grocery store behind someone paying with EBT cards and WIC vouchers (which I helped pay for with my tax dollars) and then watch them go buy Lottery tickets with CASH? DUH! Am I missing something here? Somebody please explain to me what I'm doing wrong!!
