Redux to show 'Constructed' photography exhibit Thursday, May 8, 2008
Redux is presenting a new group exhibition featuring five American photographers who challenge the nature of truth as documented by the photograph. "The Constructed Image" exhibition will explore works made by these contemporary photographers: Luis Gispert, Daniel Gordon, Lori Nix, Chris Scarborough and Nathan Baker. Read story.

Mushroom art show to help environmental education Thursday, April 17, 2008
The Mellow Mushroom has teamed up with the Lowcountry Environmental Education Program (LEEP) to bring the first in a series of Earth-friendly themed art shows. The first show, titled "Earth: The Beautiful and Controversial" will have an opening reception at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Read story.
Jordahl shows at the Lowcountry Artists Gallery Thursday, April 10, 2008
The Lowcountry Artists Gallery is presenting the exhibit, "Loosening Up," a series of new paintings by Rana Jordahl. The exhibit will be on display throughout this month. "Loosening Up" is a collection of textural paintings, created with only a palette knife. Jordahl's experimentation with her palette knife and her play with light and color has resulted in rich Lowcountry landscapes with a slight impressionistic and contemporary edge. Read story.
National Geographic photographer Sam Abell to hold an exhibition at Center for Photography Thursday, April 3, 2008
The Center for Photography has brought legendary National Geographic photographer Sam Abell to Charleston to teach a weeklong workshop. Unfortunately for the public, the workshop sold out almost immediately. However, the center is offering a photo presentation of Abell's "A Photographic Journey" today at 7 p.m. The exhibit is free and open to the public. Read story.
Halsey Institute to Host 'Young Contemporaries 2008' Thursday, March 27, 2008
The Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art at the College of Charleston's School of the Arts will host the 23rd annual juried student art exhibition "Young Contemporaries 2008" today through April 25. There will be an opening reception today from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Halsey. This spring, Charleston will host its First Charleston International Arts Festival, with a main focus on Cuba, its art, culture and people. ‘Masquerade Ball’
If you’d like to do your part to help the Arts Commission, and have a great time doing it, celebrate Valentine’s Day at an elegant, fun Masquerade Ball taking place on February 14 at the Hibernian. There will be live entertainment by the Joe Clarke Big Band, a cabaret performance by Cabaret Kiki, a shadow puppet theatre by Wayang Modern, a dance performance, a silent art auction and a mask contest.Tickets start at $45. Proceeds from the event will be donated to the S.C. Arts Commission Artist Grant Programs. This is a formal event with masks encouraged. Read story.
