Horry County school goes green
Friday, October 10, 2008
Aynor Middle School is the latest educational institution to get a green curriculum. The Horry County school will be dedicated at 10 a.m. today as an official "Green Power Solar School." The program is part of an educational initiative to cultivate interest in renewable energy among sixth-graders. It employs a 10-foot by 12-foot solar panel at the school for hands-on learning and a renewable energy curriculum centered on state Department of Education math and science standards. The program also incorporates a Web-based system that shows the real-time energy output from the school's solar panel to foster discussion of opportunities and challenges associated with solar energy.
