Clemson benches QB Harper; Korn will start against Georgia Tech
Bowden makes change after Tigers' loss at Wake Forest
Associated Press
Friday, October 10, 2008
Clemson coach Tommy Bowden is changing quarterbacks, benching preseason Atlantic Coast Conference player of the year Cullen Harper in favor of backup Willy Korn.
Bowden says he made the decision today after watching tape of the Tigers' 12-7 loss at Wake Forest.
The Tigers play next at home against Georgia Tech on Oct. 18.
Bowden said he had to do something to spark the team. The coach said Korn is more mobile than Harper and gives the Tigers more options on offense.
Bowden stood behind offensive coordinator Rob Spence, despite the team scoring only one touchdown the past seven quarters.
Bowden says he’ll reevaluate the decision after Korn’s performance against the Yellow Jackets.

Dear Clemson AD:
Can you please give Coach Bowden a contract extentsion until 2020?
Watching a Tommy Bowden coached team on national tv brings me so much joy and happiness.

Bench the ACC pre-season player of the year but not yourself or your OC or more chins than wins? Harper made all those screen throws but wake was ready for them. I feel sorry for Harper in that Bowden appears to fault Harper instead of himself or the OC or more chins than wins. Remember this is the same coach that let Harper sit through a losing streak two seasns ago while Proctor sunk the ship. I don't see that as the same problem this year. If Korn is that much better, why did it take so long. I smell a mutiny if this doesn't work.
More cow bell.

USC_Alumni: OK, as long as the AD at USC extends Spurrier's contract to 2020. Tigers need humor, too!
:)
See, Clemson and USC CAN stick together when times are tough!
We might as well be laughing and miserable together.

When I read about the Harper-to-Korn switch, all I can think of is the title of Sapakoff's column today -- Don't Get Fooled Again.
I don't care how many quarterbacks or assistants he changes, as long as Bowden is over Clemson nothing will ever change. Because changing QBs and assistants won't break 10 years of mediocrity. Besides, Bowden's not doing this for the betterment of the team, he's only doing it to save his job. Which is another reason he needs to be fired -- putting his job security over the interests of the team.

USC plays SEC VARSITY football. Clem's son plays ACC JUNIOR VARSITY football.

Seeing how Bowden has owned USC over the years I would think you would want him gone too. Unfortunately he has saved his job several times whooping up on yall.

He threw Harper under the bus and didn't even tell him about it before the presser. What a weasel.

I really don't think benching Harper is the issue, Clemson coaches must find a way to put their playmakers involved.

Tammy is a jackass of the highest order. I can't stand Clempsun, but Harper is a good QB working with a ridiculous game plan/play calling. Willie ain't the savior Clemtech thinks he is. He may be a good QB, but the problem is Tammy, Spence, Fat Scott, etc. Remember what Tammy did to Jad Dean? That kid is probably working at the Wal Mart in Greenwood thanks to Tammy scapegoating him every chance he got. It's one thing to blame players in the NFL, they're professionals, but this pattern of blaming his players and not owning it like a man have made me lose what little respect I had left for this moron. As much as I would love for him to stay at Clempsun for the next 20 years, I hate it for the kids who signed on to play football, not be blamed by a fraction of a man for his own shortcomings. Pathetic.

As a Carolina alumnus, I can't help but feel that USC_alumni's nasty, "fill-in-the-blank" post, aside from being rude and crude, is and will create Bad Karma and subject us (USC) to the little known phenomenon known as Karmac Retribution.
The best recent example of this is the Chicago Cubs, victims of Karmac Retribution inflicted on them by MLB in connection with the Houston home games in Miller Park (Milwaukee).

USC_Alum, do we want Tommy to stick around if he wins another 7 out of 9 against us?

USC_Alumni sounds like someone who could not get into the real university of South Carolina, Clemson. Just look at the college rankings and admissions for universities around the country. Clemson is in the top half of colleges around the country. (Private and Public.) Then compare that to the arm pit of the south university.
