2 injured as party ends in gunfire
Relative of 1 victim faces charges
The Post and Courier
Monday, October 6, 2008
A party east of the Cooper River ended a little after midnight on Sunday with gunshots and sirens. One man was shot in the head, another was shot in the shoulder, according to Charleston County Sheriff's Office Maj. John Clark. Tyrone Johnson, 22, of Mount Pleasant, who was shot in the head, was rushed to the Medical University Hospital with life-threatening injuries, Clark said. Hospital officials had no word on his condition late Sunday, but no deaths had been reported to the county coroner's office. David Feagin of Mount Pleasant was wounded in the shoulder after a disturbance inside a small white lodge at 2437 Old Georgetown Road prompted partygoers to spill into the street. Old Georgetown Road runs along the eastern side of U.S. Highway 17, and the lodge is less than half a mile north of where Long Point Road ends at Highway 17. Once outside, the conflict erupted in gunfire, Clark said. Sheriff's deputies and Mount Pleasant police responded to the shootings, and authorities arrested one man, Clark said. Nicholas Feagin, 17, a relative of David Feagin, was charged with assault and battery with intent to kill, officials said. He was expected to attend a bond hearing Monday morning, but detention center officials had no information on the results late Sunday.

A gun.... the most popular accessory when going to a party anymore!
Who knew? I guess I am behind the times since when I get ready to go all I think to take is my ID and phone.

Just more welfare scum bags. What is a 17 year old doing there? His mom will be on T.V. saying what a good boy he is and has not been in much trouble, but probably has a 7 page Rap sheet!
Put him on trial as an adult and throw away the keys!

"A party east of the Cooper River"
Why not just say a party in Mount Pleasant? Oh yeah, its not North Charleston or Downtown. Nothing to see here, there's no crime in Mount Pleasant...

I've thought the same thing before RedSnappa. It used to be if anything escalated,it was a fist fight. At most someone left with a shiner and the problem was resolved. And during the fist fight 10 additional people didn't jump in to kick the person on the ground in the head. Now bad parenting has produced a bunch of gun toting thugs.

I knew someone at this party. It was a birthday party, for teenagers! (Good people) Other kids came uninvited, due to word of mouth. and that is how things got out of hand. It was very upsetting for many, including myself, to see this to occur. They were out to celebrate a friends birthday and had to witness an attempted murder.
I also hope that the schools provide grief counselors for the kids that witnessed this terrible event. It is sad when a fight is turns into a death match.
All the name calling and innunendo is totally uncalled for, yet, indictative of you sad excuse for a human beings. This could happen anywhere. I am sorry for the family that gave the party.

Ok, when our fore fathers granted us "the right to bear arms" they were thinking of militias, defending property from the British, etc....
Were they thinking of semi-automatic assault rifles, uzis, and guns being brought to schools and birthday parties?? Just curious..... Chomp on that NRA, GOP.....
Oh, and tell the victims of Columbine about the 10th Amendment....

The reason that they put East of the Cooper, and not Mt. Pleasant, is because this area is not incorporated. It is in Charleston County. It is what we refer to as a "doughnut hole." That is why the sheriff's dept. responded with MPPD. This areas are becoming fewer as more of them become part of the town.
MPPD does respond to calls in these areas, as they are contracted by the county.

their is NO evidence that the death penalty acts as a crime deterrent.....
Posted by cfrulla1 on October 6, 2008 at 10:25 a.m. (Suggest removal)
how would there be evidence when barely anyone is sentenced to death...in order to have evidence and make a logical conlcusion, the death penalty would have to be enforced very stringently over a long period of time
and it is so simple, outlawing handguns takes away guns from good citizens ONLY...if you are blind enough to think that all these thugs would put down there guns bc they are illegal, then you need a reality check....and there would never be a way to rid the streets of guns, the amount of guns out there is outrageously high and there would be no way to round them up....so in the meantime respect the law-abiding citizens rights to have guns for protection

Finally I agree with you on something. I like the old saying..an eye for an eye and tooth for a tooth. If you steal from someone, cut the hand off they uses. If you kill someone then you die as soon as your convicted. Just make sure your convicting the right person.
Criminals have more rights then the victims. Why should the victims have to wait 20 years for a sense of peace.

The 10th Amendment concerns States Rights ...and I do not understand what that has to do with Columbine. Perhaps you were thinking about the 2nd Amendment, "The Right to Bear Arms" ???

This is a sad situation, indeed. Where do these youngsters get these guns ? I think they get their ideas from TV as well as music (and music videos). Think about it.
Years ago, I wasn't allowed to watch 'The Three Stooges' because they were considered by many to be violent. Nowadays, our youth sits in front of the TV and watch violent TV shows, listen to 'gangsta rap' music and watch music videos that carry the wrong message. There is even violence depicted in many video games they play.
The saying 'Children Live What They Learn' carries alot of truth. I don't see this as a racial issue because its global. Violence is all around us, folks. Just imagine what the world will be like in years to come. Its a scary thought.
My prayers go out to all involved in this shooting as well as the partygoers who had to witness such violence.

jk - agreed!
Rw - this article has nothing to do with McCain or Obama. Freaking numnut! You make all white people look bad with your nasty posts.
The most important question is how did this kid get a gun? And how did this party turn into a murder scene? Was there any adult supervision? If it a club why not ban weapons at the door? Everyone here has to agree that clubs/drinking and guns do not mix! Was the club still serving adults at this underage party?
I do not want to take away anyone’s guns, I just want stricter enforcement of current laws.

It's usually someone that is (or has been) on the other side of the law or someone close to them is (or has) that screams about "innocent" people in jail or that they've all been framed. Or better yet, only black people are in jail.
I don't care what color the criminal is, all criminals belong locked up.
And for the guy that brought the gun to the party - if he was willing to tote a gun and use it in that fashion, it wasn't his first rodeo.

SpiderJohn-Don't let them pull you in to their hateful rhetoric, They are bigots and they enjoy it. If this was "Susie's" Birthday. The tone would be so different.
To answer your question about, the adult supervision, yes there was adult supervision. The parents were there. It was supposed to be a festive occasion and the end result was this tragic shooting.
The bigots believe that Black people should be wiped off the face off the earth and will not be happy until we are. So don't play their game.
They are ignorant, have been and always will be that way. Let's talk about the seriousness of our children not being able to go out and have fun without some sort of incident. STOP THE VIOLENCE.
Posted by forget on October 6, 2008 at 2 p.m. (Suggest removal)
Peninsula - how are we to know what the color of the people are involve? What does it mean if it was Susie"s party?
My child has birthday parties, and not one time has anyone showed up with a gun. You are worried about "the seriousness of not being able to go out and have fun" you are missing the whole concept of the situation.
The seriousness of the situation is the total disregard of life. The problem is the fact that these, and I'm going to call them children because that is what 17 is, have guns and don't give a second thought about using them.
And another thing, there has to have been an on going problem for these people to show up with a gun and start shooting. If you don't want this to happen, you don't associate yourself with the likes of them. As my mother always told me, you are judged by the company you keep. See, I don't associate myself with them, and when I had the little league party at my house, they didn't show up and start shooting my guests. Look how well it works out.

If a 17 year old is a child, the justice system must've gotten it all wrong. It doesn't really matter in this case though. A 17 year old possessing an illegal firearm with intent to cause death or physical harm is still a criminal and should be dealt with accordingly by law. It's sad in this day and age that the law would turn a blind eye to heinous criminal acts because of age.
Posted by forget on October 6, 2008 at 2:35 p.m. (Suggest removal)
Weeee - I was saying in my eyes (and because of my age) I still consider a 17 yr old a child. But, they know right from wrong, they know that there are consequences to participating in illegal activities. And in this young man's case, I'm sure he has had other young people he has known that had been tried as an adult. So therefore, you do an adult crime, you do adult time.
And, just guessing, considering that he went there brandishing a weapon like it was the wild, wild, west, this wasn't the first time he has chosen to bring along a gun for an evening out on the town.

Ever see pictures of children blown up by the Taliban? Another place you'd probably enjoy is Pakistan, where women who are raped are subject to "honor killings" by their own families to stave off disgrace. The same goes for that beacon of freedom and hope,Saudi Arabia, where women can be hauled in off the street because the Committee for Religious Purity doesn't like the way they are dressed or the woman left the house with out a male family member to escort her.Get a life or get lost.

This crime here had nothing to do with black or white, rich or poor. It had nothing to do with the economy, democrats or republicans. It had nothing to do with the rhetoric that gets used to excuse criminals. The fact that a 17 year old had a gun should appall spider and michelle and peninsula. The fact that he would use it to take a life without a second thought should really be alarming to you also.
What is alarming to me (besides the crime and the ages of those involved) is the fact that some of the posters here are putting the blame on everything else and everyone else except the one committing the crime. A HUGE part of today's societies problems are simply the lack of personal responsibility.

No need to add fuel to the fire so just let it go and we can all have civil conversations with people that do want to conversate in an intelligent manner.

Ask Mr. Pretty. I'm white; therefore, I'm one of the old rich white guys who use code words to describe "his people" he's referring to.

Forget
I know that this may be a hard concept for you to comprehend, but when kids have parties, sometimes other kids come and crash the party. Simple concept.
The people that were at the party do not all go through background checks, pysch evaluations, questionares or the like.
I am sure you know all about the lives of all of your kids friends and that is good for you.
Again, this was an innocent party with intruders crashing and tradegy followed. How sad.
Crankyyankee:
I apologize for making that blanket statement, but I get so sick and tired of hearing all the vitriol on this website and in the South. I am Black, I work everyday, very hard, so that my family and I can enjoy the spoils in life. It is past frustating getting the what are you doing here look.
I can assure you, I will not rob you nor will my children. We love life and everything in and try to treat it as such.

First,,, if anyone that showed up who was not invited would be told to leave. If the did not the cops would be called immediately and they would be arrested for trespassing.

I see I missed a lot of post while I was working . How's everyone doing....Ohh ok I just read the post that everyone wrote. I guess we are back to blaming the democrats and Obama for the problems we have in our community. Wish that republicans had done something about it their last 8 years inpower though.

Seems to me that the posters on this board were even more upset and harsher on the baby murderer and his accomplice and the Wando teens.

I happen to know all 3 parties in this terrible incident. It just so happens that the Feagin kids are from an interracial marriage, father is white and mother is black. Therefore, all racial comments can cease from here on out. I doubt that the mother will be on TV pleading that the incarcerated son is such a good boy and whatever else people are waiting for her to say. Not that he isn't, but, she still has a son seriously fighting for his life. She doesn't have time for public appearances at this time. I watched these children grow up in church, on choirs, YPD, you name it, the parents had them participating. You can raise a child the way you want them to go, but you can't be with them every minute of the day or night. This could have been anyone of our kids, attending a birthday party ending as it did.
