I-26 roadwork: No lanes are scheduled for closure this week on Interstate 26. But there may be delays while work is under way on a widening project between Ashley Phosphate Road and Interstate 526 in North Charleston.

Expected delays are: I-26 — Monday starting at midnight, to replace reflective pavement markers. Remount Road — all week, keep watch for construction vehicles and equipment.

Taylor Street — closed at the I-26 overpass for the next few weeks for bridge work. Follow the detour signs.

TASTE OF CHARLESTON: Oct. 10-12. Locations vary. The 28th Annual Taste of Charleston has been expanded into a three-day event that will feature an Iron Chef Competition on Friday night, a Taste of the Arts at various downtown Charleston art galleries on Saturday night and the main event, featuring food and beer from more than 40 Charleston-area restaurants, at Boone Hall on Sunday.

Tuesday

GOOGLE CELEBRATES NEW PLANT: 3-6 p.m. Tuesday 1669 Garrott Ave. between Goose Creek and Moncks Corner. Google will celebrate the opening of its new $600 million data center on 520 acres in Mount Holly Commerce Park in Berkeley County.

State and local leaders as well as up to 100 lottery-selected Berkeley County residents will attend the ceremony.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony will feature live music, local food, activities for children and Google surprises. The facility will employ 200 people.

Wednesday

FIRe PREVENTION PARADE AND DISPLAY: 4:30 p.m. The Sullivan's Island and Isle of Palms fire and rescue departments will hold a parade between the departments.

A display will begin at 6 p.m. and will feature a Smoke House, giant slide and more. Free refreshments will be provided.

Thursday

Police meet with James and Johns island residents: 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. , Harbor View Elementary School, 1576 Harbor View Road, James Island. Charleston police meet with residents and merchants from incorporated areas on James and Johns islands for a regular Citizen Advisory Group meeting.

Command staff will be available to discuss issues affecting the area, which is covered by the department's Team 3 patrol.

Saturday

NAACP BANquet: 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18. at the North Charleston Convention Center. The Charleston Branch of the NAACP will hold its 92nd Annual Freedom Fund Banquet at the North Charleston Convention Center.

This year's banquet theme is "A Good Public Education: A Public Trust." The banquet speaker is the U.S. Rep. Jesse L. Jackson, Jr., D-Illinois. For more information or to order tickets, call 805-8030 or 552-1111.

BLACK TIE GALA for SPIRIT: Saturday evening at Charleston Place Hotel. "Escape to the Islands" is the theme for this year's Spirit Ball, an annual black-tie gala which benefits the South Carolina Maritime Foundation and its programs aboard the Spirit of South Carolina.

Up for auction this year will be vacations to the Bahamas, Jamaica and Ireland, as well as sailing opportunities and diamond jewelry.

In all, there will be 12 live items and more than 80 silent ones.
