C of C sailors second

MOUNT PLEASANT — The College of Charleston sailing team placed in the top three in all six races, including a win in the second, to finish second at the Stern Sloops held over the weekend at the J. Stewart Walker Sailing Center at Patriots Point.

Eckerd posted nine points to win the event. Charleston finished with 14.

Cole Allsopp skippered the Cougars in the A-Division. Serving as crew were Shawn Murray and Andrew Zuber.

St. Mary's finished third in the event with 16 points, while Florida Atlantic placed fourth with 26 points.

The Cougars next compete at the Hobart Intersectional on Oct. 11-12 in Geneva, N.Y.

--The College of Charleston sailing team placed 15th in the A-Division and 11th in the B-Division to finish 13th at the Danmark Trophy Regatta held over the weekend at the Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn.

Boston College won with 107 points. Charleston finished with 278.

College soccer

The College of Charleston women's soccer team fell to host UNC Greensboro, 1-0, in overtime .

With the loss, the Cougars drop to 8-3-2 on the year, 1-2-1 in the Southern Conference.

College volleyball

The Citadel volleyball team recorded 16 blocks in a 3-1 loss to visiting Davidson.

The scores were 29-27, 16-25, 25-20 and 25-11.

Sophomores Blaine McAllister and Jessica Maas recorded double-digit kills for the Bulldogs (6-10, 0-4 SoCon).
