Shrimpers' group pulls sponsorshipThursday, October 2, 2008
BEAUFORT — Officials said a difficult year for shrimpers has prompted the state's Shrimpers Association to pull its sponsorship from Beaufort's annual shrimp festival. Association representative Jane Webb told the Island Packet of Hilton Head that commercial shrimpers can't afford to stop shrimping to attend the event. The newspaper reported that summer shrimp crops have been small and production costs have risen because of the increased price of fuel. Organizers said more than a dozen local restaurants will provide local shrimp for the two-day festival, which begins Saturday. |
