All-state baseball team announced

Twelve players have been named all-state by the South Carolina Baseball Coaches Association.

Local players named to the Class AAAA team include Brent Perry, Goose Creek; Aaron Preston, Stratford; Nick Orvin, Berkeley; Drew Cisco, Wando; Pat Dolan, Summerville; and Thomas Brittle, Berkeley.

Timberland's Cody Craig and Blake Wrenn, along with Hilton Head Island's Greg Harrison, were the local selections on the Class AAA team.

Bishop England had three players named to the Class AA squad: Anthony Rowland, Marc Kelley and Brison Celek.

Boiling Spring's Jimmy Revan is the Class AAAA player of the year, while Brookland-Cayce's Adam Westmoreland is the Class AAA player of the year. Gilbert's Christopher Owings if the Class AA player of the year, while Tyler Boyd of Lamar received the top honor in Class A.

Region 7-AAA stars

The baseball coaches in Region 7-AAA have announced their all-star team.

Region champ Hilton Head Island leads the way with four picks: Greg Harrison, Elliot Van Dyke, Denton Kerr, Jerahmey Soresnon and John Marscher.

Timberland's picks include Blake Wrenn, Cody Craig and Jeremy Vanwyk.

Bluffton's picks are Trey Dymock, Patrick Boulware and J.W. Wilkerson.

The remainder of the team includes Josh Quinn and Tyree Scott, Stall; Sheldon Bradshaw, Lake Marion; and Travis Culbreth, North Charleston.

Koester to sign

Summerville softball player Brittany Koester will sign a scholarship to play for Columbia College.

She batted .402 this spring, with 39 hits in 97 at-bats. She had three doubles and two triples and drove in 34 runs. She was an all-region selection and was picked to play in the North-South All-Star Games.

Wando No. 8

The Wando girls' soccer team, which won the Class AAAA state championship over the weekend, moved up to No. 8 in the latest NSCAA/adidas national poll. The Warriors, who finished with a 24-1 record, moved up three spots in this week's poll.
