Republican Ninth Circuit Solicitor candidate Blair Jennings is airing a new campaign commercial this week that centers on the Christmastime 2002 murder of 18-year-old Rachel Sottile.

Jennings prosecuted the case as deputy solicitor in Berkeley County, convicting Derrick Grant of the murder. He was sentenced to life without parole.

In the ad, Rachel's mother, Terry Sottile, discusses what she saw as Jenning's commitment to her family and prosecuting Grant.

"Blair was immediately there from the beginning," she says. "It wasn't just about his job. It was about taking care of us and getting justice for Rachel."

Jennings faces Solicitor Scarlett Wilson in the June 10 GOP primary.

Is this news, or free ad for Blair? I saw where Johnny's Susuki had a new ad the other day ...

This is a FREE AD!

P & C, you need to let the voters decide!!! Let the ads and the candidates themselves run their campaigns. Your commentary is unnecessary.

Can anyone recall the last local election that received this much coverage?

Too bad the P&C can't evaluate the obnoxious push poll call I got from Jennings.
Vote for Wilson!

I like the coverage so far by the paper. It doesn't sound like the paper has endorsed either candidate. Both sets of ads were listed. I think these articles help voters understand what the Solicitor's Office is all about and who is running for the office and why. Not everyone goes to court to see them at work. Not everyone watches TV and gets to see the ads. This way we can all watch. Thanks charleston.net

Imagine the doorbell ringing, you answer it, and there stands a candidate!

When did can they start making house calls?

Personally I think it is refreshing for candidates to get out in the neighborhoods instead of just greeting people at arranged events. I haven't been visited by any candidates but I hear Scarlett is also going door to door. Let them see the places we all live and hear our own stories of personal safety. This is good.

If you don't want them to knock on your door, do like you do at Halloween when you turn out all the lights or put up a sign "no candy". Just put up a sign "no voters live here". I'm sure they will pass your house and go on to the next one.
