Howell takes over lead by 1 in AT&T

DULUTH, Ga. — Charles Howell III shot a 5-under 67 on Saturday to take a one-stroke lead over Kenny Perry into the final round of the AT&T Classic.

An Augusta native seeking his third PGA Tour victory and first since the 2007 Nissan Open, Howell had a 13-under 203 total at TPC Sugarloaf.

Perry shot a 69. David Toms (69), Ryan Palmer (70) and second-round leader Jonathan Byrd (73) were two back at 11 under. With storms expected this afternoon, the players will tee off in threesomes, starting on both the first and 10th holes. Howell, Perry and Toms are set for 10:15 a.m. on No. 1.

LPGA Tour

Lorena Ochoa, the two-time defending champion, fired a 5- under 67 and left the retiring Annika Sorenstam in her wake after two rounds of the rain-shortened Sybase Classic in Clifton, N.J. Ochoa will enter today's final round of the now 54-hole tournament with a 9-under 135 total and a two-shot lead over Teresa Lu and Sophie Gustafson. Brittany Lang was four back and Sorenstam was five behind after a 1-over 73.

Champions Tour

Andy Bean (68) birdied the final hole to take a one-shot lead over Mike Goodes (69) heading into the final round of the Regions Charity Classic in Hoover, Ala. Loren Roberts and Denis Watson were two strokes back after both carded 66s.

Nationwide Tour

David Mathis shot a 3-under 69 in the third round of the BMW Charity Pro-Am in Greenville to hold a one-shot lead over Matt Weibring (68) going into the final round. Mathis was at 17 under par after 54 holes.

The tournament is spread out over three courses, and Mathis completed his rotation at the host course, the Thornblade Club. Weibring played at Bright's Creek Club.

European PGA Tour

Bradley Dredge shot a 6-under 66 to take a one-stroke lead after the third round of the Irish Open in Adare. He is at 9-under 207. Richard Finch (65) was one back.
