Affidavits: Robbery was shooting motive
Sunday, May 18, 2008
Robbery was the motive in the Mother's Day shooting death of Jesse Meyers, affidavits released on Saturday reveal. The affidavits show that Meyers, 23, of North Charleston, was shot several times in the back as he tried to run away from the robbery on Lee Street in Charleston. His father said the bullets struck his liver, heart and a kidney. Samuel Phillip Smiley, 17, of Charleston, is charged with armed robbery and murder. Smiley and an accomplice are accused of striking Meyers in the face, forcing him to remove all of his clothes and shoes and then firing the shots at him. Police would not reveal the identity of the accused accomplice on Saturday but said the investigation continues. Smiley remained at the Charleston County Detention Center Saturday. He was denied bail on the robbery charge and will later face a circuit court judge in a bond hearing for the murder charge.

Smiley's mom should be charged as an accomplice. It was her gun, if it wasn't, she should have known.

Smiley should get the death penalty for this.
Meyers should be charged as an accessory to his own murder. Everyone knows that dirt bag drug dealers always carry cash. He made his own bed, in this case grave, and now he has to sleep in it. He has, after all, been arrested NUMEROUS times since 2003, most of them for possession with intent to distribute in the close proximity to a school and for unlawfully carrying a firearm.
What is it with the P&C trying to pass off all of these criminals in positive lights?

BPFROM843, Jesse Meyers was a dirt bag. Get over it. We're better off with Jesse Meyers off of the street. I'm glad that the murder has been arrested, but I'm just as glad that Jessie Meyers is no longer out there selling drugs and illegally carrying a gun around.
FYI, the vast majority of people (those would be the law abiding citizens) are never arrested for anything so your argument doesn't hold much water. Jessie Meyers had a rap sheet that included multiple arrest spanning the last 5 years, and that's just in one county. Yes, he was a dirt bag.

Mr. Meyers was no big loss to society...nor will Mr. Smiley be any loss...give him the death penalty! That is, after "Big Bubba" is through with him!

This crime happened in Charleston county 2008. If this person is the actual killer a deal will be cut and this case will be heard before a judge only.

Girleygirl, he was being arrested for possesion with intent to distribute right up until his death. His last arrest was March 2008.
I feel sorry for his mom and the pain he put his family through, but I feel no sorrow at his departure.

BPFROM843 whats your deal? Are you and these guys buds or something? Chances are he was not convicted b/c of some loophole and some scum bag attorney. "Normal" folks dont even have their name listed on the Charleston County website. Especially for the charges that were brought against him. If you lay with dogs, your gonna get fleas...and fleas he got. Quit defending him unless you want to be considered one of them. They were/are dirtbags.

ms_lady2u, I'm not angry. This is, I believe, the 4th day that the P&C has run an article about this shooting and I've said, on more than one occasion, that I feel sorry for the mom and loved ones that are in pain over this murder. I've said that the murderer needs to be brought to justice.
That doesn't take away from the fact the Jesse Meyers was a drug dealer that dealt drugs by schools and illegally carried a gun. I've stated that the low country is safer without him on the streets and I truly believe that. I am NOT saying that the murder is justified. Not in any way, shape or form.
I just want criminals off of the streets. I don't want to have to worry about people that I care for running in to a gun toting drug dealer.
Remember, Jesse Meyers made his own decisions. I did not make any of them for him. I did not cause his death. True, he was not convicted, but he was arrested numerous times and that doesn't happen unless you are screwing up. If you constantly screw up that way, it's going to come back to haunt you sooner or later. His mom most likely does not deserve the pain she is suffering, but it is her son, not me, that is to blame for her pain.
Maybe I am somewhat angry. Angry at all of the crime taking place. Angry at all of the innocent people that are suffering due to the actions of people like Jesse Meyers. Mixed with that anger is also disappointment that it’s only getting worse. One of the main reasons it’s getting worse is that, as you can see from reading this thread, there are so many people willing to let criminals, thugs and dirt bags live among us with no retribution.
