Officers arrested Smiley at Murray Hill Academy, police public information officer Charles Francis said. Smiley is scheduled to have a bond hearing at 9 a.m. today.

The Meyers family said Friday they had no comment on the arrest.

Meyers, 23, of North Charleston was shot Sunday night at No. 6-J Lee St. Police received an anonymous complaint about the shooting and found Meyers lying face down in an upstairs bedroom.

Meyers' father, Herbert , said earlier this week that his son was shot in the liver, heart and kidney. Meyers' parents said he had friends in the Lee Street area, but they don't know who lives at the address where his body was found.

Meyers lived with his parents in North Charleston and worked for a trucking company off Remount Road, the family said.

Meyers came home with flowers for his mother, Alice, about 5 p.m. Sunday, then left. The family got a call about 9:30 p.m. that Meyers had been shot and he later died at Medical University Hospital.

Meyers had been arrested at least three times since 2006 on charges including possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute and unlawful carrying of a weapon, but he was never convicted, records show. Charleston police most recently arrested him in March on a drug charge, according to his arrest history.

Meyers' parents said they knew he occasionally smoked marijuana but that they had no indication that his involvement with drugs was more serious. He is survived by a 2-year-old daughter.

Murder, even of a dirt bag drug dealer, should be an automatic death penalty.

If this guy was arrested there would be an arrest warrant. Attached would have to be an affidavit with facts (probable cause) to support the arrest. That would make the story a little better rather than repeating yesterday's story and saying this guy was arrested for it. The affidavit would at least say if there was a confession, supporting evidence, or a witness.

He probably won't wipe that smart grin. If he's not scared to murder, you think he's scared to be tried and sentenced as an adult. hm? Think he cares??

He's a street punk that was likely walking around reciting rap lyrics out loud and cussing in people's faces.

I say he needs to be sentenced to death.

He needs to be tried as a youth. I think they got the message when many people complained last time when the white kids age 17 were tried as adults for robbery.

Thomas1776 I do not think rap music had anything to do with him kiliing anyone. And as far as everyone saying he should die. What does that make you? A murder just like him. You people are no different.

if only Ravenel had the same hair stylist he too might not be looking at doing time...

what a lopsided world this is, whites go to jail for spitting on the sidewalk while black thugs repeatidly break the laws and endanger us all with their street thug ways

not that either is OK, but what an obviously lopsided world we live in

Posted by bankz on May 18, 2008 at 10:48 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Yes lopsided with the advantage for the whites. Lets not get it twisted this guy deserves to go to jail for what he did and so does Ravenel. If you have read the law it is illegal to possess cocaine. Now think if Ravenel was black how much time would he get?

White folks take responsibility for your actions for once and stop blaming every other race.

Please use your brain johns this is not robbery were talking about if the boy is guilty regardless of age or nationality he murdered someone and that makes you grown!! He needs to be considered an adult.

Posted by jammer on May 18, 2008 at 2:25 p.m. (Suggest removal)

bankz you must have read a different article than I...

if Ravenel was black he could do the same crime ten times over and still walk, and then shoot someone and still be out on bail

Posted by bankz on May 18, 2008 at 6:26 p.m. (Suggest removal)

NO, NO jammer you are so closed minded and blind to reality. these are things i cannot teach you my child. just watch the news and you will see the injustice that happens to black people everyday.

Posted by jammer on May 18, 2008 at 8:35 p.m. (Suggest removal)

bankz I'm not your child, and the news if full of the injustices to the whites in this nation

black people have been and are given more opportunity in this country than any other place on earth, or any other race... and still many complain...

Posted by bankz on May 18, 2008 at 9:48 p.m. (Suggest removal)

My child you still are so blind and stupid it is not funny. Just stop posting please your ignorance is killing me. How about you come out of the bubble you live in and step into reality.

ahh you jumped the shark bankz and have resorted to insults, that's the true sign of ignorance my friend

when the liberals untruth's shows themselves for the lies that have been told they always resort to insults to try and detract from the facts, as if we the people are so stupid as you say to not pay attention

you shot yourself in the foot brother... no worry, you'll be out on bail before the nights up.... lol
