Sonny Meade hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth as Chris Swauger scored the winning run for The Citadel (26-27) against Presbyterian in front of 714 at Riley Park.

Swauger scored the winning run in the eighth as well as the tying run in the third when he hit a two-run home run over the right-field fence.

Asher Wojciechowski (5-1) recorded his first win since March 30 as he pitched five innings in relief, holding the Blue Hose (13-38) scoreless. Matt Reifsnider earned his eighth save of the season and first since March 30.

Mitchell Odom (1-6) took the loss for Presbyterian after surrendering Swauger's run in the eighth.

Presbyterian had a 2-0 lead after single runs in the second and third innings before Swauger's blast ied the game, a hit that broke the senior's career-long four-game hitless streak.

The Citadel faces Presbyterian in the second game of the three-game series today at 1 p.m.

The Citadel will host the Southern Conference Tournament for the 19th consecutive year starting May 20 at Riley Park.

COLUMBIA — Cody Brown went 4-for-5 and drove in two runs and Nick Hernandez threw a complete game three-hitter to lead Tennessee past South Carolina.

Jeff Lockwood and P.J. Polk each had three RBIs as the Volunteers (27-27, 12-16 Southeastern Conference) broke a seven-game SEC losing streak.

James Darnell homered in the ninth inning for South Carolina (35-19, 13-15).

The win improves the Vols' slim chances of making the SEC Tournament next week, and hampers South Carolina's shot. The teams play two more games in the series.

Hernandez (2-5) struck out eight to get the win.

Gamecocks starter Will Atwood (5-3) allowed four runs on five hits in 3 2/3 innings to pick up the loss.

ORLANDO, Fla. — D.J. Mitchell struck out nine batters, and Ben Paulsen and Stan Widmann each drove in three runs to lead Clemson past Central Florida in front of 1,017 fans at Jay Bergman Field.

The Tigers improved to 28-25-1. The Knights dropped to 31-23. It was Clemson's first-ever game at Central Florida as the Tigers evened the all-time series 3-3.

Mitchell (6-4) allowed five hits, one run, and two walks with nine strikeouts in seven innings pitched to earn the win. Justin Sarratt pitched two scoreless innings of one-hit ball to close out the game. Central Florida starter Kyle Sweat (5-4) suffered the loss, as he allowed six hits, four runs (three earned), and two walks with four strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings pitched.

Two days after Widmann hit two homers with five RBIs, he went 3-for-4 with a triple, two runs scored, three RBIs, and a stolen base against the Knights. Paulsen added two hits, including a triple, and three RBIs.
