Answer: $10,000. Question: What are West Ashley High School graduate Vera Swain's earnings for playing "Jeopardy!"? The University of South Carolina junior lost her semifinal match in the show's 2008 College Championship, which was televised Wednesday night. But she won the cash for her strong showing. Swain, 21, was one of nine contestants to appear this week on three semifinal episodes. The winners have moved on to the finals, which will air tonight and Friday on WCBD-TV Channel 2. The grand-prize winner will get $100,000. The championship shows were taped in April at the University of Wisconsin's Kohl Center. Swain graduated 11th in her class at West Ashley High, and she landed a Palmetto Fellows college scholarship, the state's richest and most competitive award.

It's nice to hear something positive coming out of our school system. I'm sure there are many more success stories out there, we just don't hear them often.
Great job Vera Swain!
