Alternative rock band 54 Seconds.

Provided

Alternative rock band 54 Seconds.

Originally formed in England, the alternative rock band 54 Seconds relocated to Austin, Texas, in the late '90s in search of a home for its enveloping pop-rock sound. Musically, 54 Seconds is bone chilling and the band's sound is much larger than its four members seemingly would create.

The son of the Bee Gees' Robin Gibb, vocalist Spencer Gibb inherits the family crooning abilities and matches the band's virtuosos' muscularity with every note. Gibb and his band will perform at The Map Room, 1650 Sam Rittenberg Blvd., with Peelander-Z on Tuesday. Tickets are $5 at the door. For information, go to www.themaproom.net or call 769-6336.

Todd Wolfe

Former guitarist for Sheryl Crow, Todd Wolfe has been electrifying the blues circuit for years with his robust blues/rock style and untouchable guitar chops.

Now he's coming to the Lowcountry for a performance that is sure to have blues enthusiasts ringing their bells all over the land. Wolfe will perform at A Dough Re Mi at 10 p.m. Friday. Tickets are $10. For more information about Wolfe, visit www.toddwolfe.com For more information on A Dough Re Mi, visit www.adoughremi.com, or call 881-6989.

A Dough Re Mi is at 1220 Ben Sawyer Blvd., Suite H, Mount Pleasant.

Friends For Hire

Charleston-based power-pop/rock quintet Friends For Hire is poised for a promising year. The group of 20-somethings recently finished its full-length debut, "Dollars & Sense," with well-known producer Matt Malpass (Inkwell, Copeland) and has been enjoying a respectable amount of success in and around the local scene. Despite the members' young ages, Friends For Hire's songs are firmly structured and well-executed with excellent composition and solid musicianship. The band's melodic and high-energy rock sound is a crowd pleaser. Armed with tight hooks, sing-along melodies and a strong Charleston fan base, a very big 2008 looks likely for this up-and-coming act. Friends For Hire will perform at The Map Room on Saturday with The Fire Apes and Cities Apart. Tickets are $5, and the show starts at 10 p.m. The Map Room is at 1650 Sam Rittenberg Blvd. For information, go to www.themaproom.net or call 769-6336.

Will West

Smart lyrics, quick vocal rhythms and organic musical stylings make up the sound of Portland's Will West. West incorporates rootsy, acoustic folk with a bluesy, almost hip-hop-like sense of rhythm. Much in the vein of Jason Mraz, West is a funky, acoustic pop songsmith with a flare for lyricism and rich melodies. West will perform tonight at The Village Tavern, 1055 Johnnie Dodds Blvd., Mount Pleasant. Tickets are $5 at the door. Call 884-6311.
