Asheville, N.C. — The Asheville Tourists took over first place in the South Atlantic League's Southern Division with an 8-0 blanking of the Charleston RiverDogs on Saturday night.

The Tourists (26-11) rocked Charleston starter Dellin Betances (4-2), who allowed seven runs in four innings. He was tagged for back-to-back homers by Jeffrey Cunningham and David Christensen as part of a five-run first.

Christensen homered again off Betances in the third to make it 6-0.

Asheville hit eight home runs in taking three of four from the RiverDogs (25-11), who have won just two games at McCormick Field in the last three seasons.

In the four-game series, Asheville outscored Charleston, 32-13. Cunningham paced the Tourists with nine hits, three homers and eight RBIs.

Jhoulys Chacin (5-1) got 13 groundouts and struck out five in seven innings for the win. Edgmar Escalona finished with two scoreless innings as the RiverDogs were shut out for the first time this season.

After taking today off, the RiverDogs open an eight-game homestand with Monday's scheduled 7:05 p.m. start against the Greenville Drive (20-17).
