--Richard N. Cote, author of "Mary's World" and "City of Heroes," will sign copies of his books 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at The Shops of Historic Charleston Foundation, downtown.

--Mark Jones, author of "Wicked Charleston," will sign copies of his book 1-3 p.m. today at the West Ashley Barnes & Noble. Also appearing at the store will be Charles Spencer, author of the Edisto Island histories "1663-1869: Wild Eden to Cotton Aristocracy" and "1861-2006: Ruin, Recovery, and Rebirth" (1-3 p.m. Saturday), and Heyward Coleman, author of the memoir "The Next Port" (4-6 p.m. Saturday).

--Former Clemson University professor Lois Duke Whitaker, now living in Columbia, has published "Voting the Gender Gap" (University of Illinois Press).

--Cassandra King, Beth Webb Hart and Kate Salley Palmer will participate in a special authors' panel and book signing at 6 p.m. Friday at the Edisto Wyndam Resort, sponsored by the Edisto Bookstore. Call 869-1885 for details.
