Man sentenced to 18 years in stabbing

Saturday, May 10, 2008

MONCKS CORNER — A man charged with murder in the stabbing death of a woman at the St. Stephen Motel in March 2006 was found guilty of two lesser charges and sentenced to 18 years behind bars late Thursday.

Billy Joe Shirar, 37, was accused of repeatedly stabbing Henrietta McMillian and Eugene Jamison Jr. inside a room of the motel. McMillian, 41, died outside the motel. Jamison, 30, recovered from his wounds.

The jury found Shirar guilty of voluntary manslaughter and assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, Deputy Solicitor Bryan Alfaro said.

Police had described the three St. Stephen residents as acquaintances. McMillian and Jamison were found outside the motel. McMillian was stabbed at least 17 times, EMS said earlier.
