Wii 5

Friday, May 9, 2008

Friday 5 page designer Rodolfo Larios keeps a close eye on the latest electronic games. Last week, he passed along some of his current and future favorite Wii titles.

In case that doesn't sound familiar, the Wii is a video game console that uses a remote game controller that detects the player's relative motion. Hence, you bowl by making a bowling motion, you box by making punching motions, etc.

-- Use the Force: Star Wars: Force Unleashed. You're Darth Vader's evil apprentice. Now go kill stuff. Due out in August.

-- Mario (not) Andretti: Mario Kart Wii is a racing game that comes with a Wii steering wheel.

-- Step-up: The new Wii Fit comes with a step-pad-type device and does a great job of helping older people and people with physical difficulties stay in shape.

-- Under the knife: Trauma Center: Second Opinion is a surgery game. Yes, a surgery game.

-- I'm with the band: Rock Band, due out in June, comes with a Wii guitar and drum controllers.

But what about some local-interest Wii games? We would suggest: 1. "Car Wash" (Save water!); 2. "Lowcountry Summer" (Swat mosquitoes and gnats!); 3. "Trolley Road Racer" (Everything you ever wanted in a racing game, only slower!); 4. "Crab Trap" (Can you raise your trap before the crab lets go of the bait? Um ... Yeah!); and 5. "Market Street Pedestrian" (Stop traffic cold in this game of nerves and skill.)
