South Carolina returns to presidential spotlight

The Post and Courier
Friday, May 9, 2008

COLUMBIA β€” John McCain, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, will speak to the press this afternoon as he swings through the state for a fundraiser.

Meanwhile, state Democratic leaders criticized McCain, a senator from Arizona, by saying that he would do nothing but serve out a third term for President Bush.

Whoever the eventual Democratic presidential nominee isβ€” Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton β€” could have a trickle-down effect on state elections, according to Majority Whip Rep. James Clyburn and State Democratic Party Chairwoman Carol Fowler.

To find out if Democratic leaders believe South Carolina might go blue, and for information on McCain's message to the state, check out Saturday's editions of The Post and Courier.
