Killing followed 2 fights, police say

Man faces charges in roommate's death

Jorge Luis Ortiz

Two Dobson Street roommates fought at least twice Tuesday before police found one man beaten and stabbed to death in a shed and the other man inside the house with bloodstained hands and clothes, North Charleston police said.

Officers arrested Jorge Luis Ortiz, 40, on a charge of murder. Ortiz, originally from Zacatecas, Mexico, lived at 5607 Dobson St. with the victim, who hasn't been identified by the Charleston County Coroner's office. Neighbors said several Hispanic men live in the house.

A pedestrian flagged down an officer patrolling the Charleston Farms community at 6:37 p.m. Tuesday and said someone had been killed at his house, a police report said. Witnesses directed officers to Ortiz inside the house and to the storage shed on the property, where the victim's partially clothed body was found, police said.

A detective's affidavit released Wednesday after a bail hearing for Ortiz stated that the two men argued and fought as early as 2 a.m. Tuesday. A witness who saw the victim about five hours later said the man had a swollen face and told him Ortiz had beaten him up, according to the affidavit.

Witnesses told police that the men got into another fight at 9 a.m., when they saw Ortiz chasing the victim with a board, the affidavit said. Both men went into the house.

The first officers who arrived on Dobson Street said they found blood on the porch, in the living room and on the bathroom floor, according to a report.

No bail was set Wednesday for Ortiz because only a circuit judge can set bail on a murder charge.

Just here doing jobs us lazy americans won't do? Law abiding good people just looking to better their lives.
Yeah right. I see them breaking traffic laws daily! I see them stare and look at women like they're but ass naked in public.(i always jump in to stop that) I see them standing on street corners in broad day light drinking beer. I see them popping up taco stands all over the place with no license or the require inspection from DHEC. What's it going to take to wake us up? We should demand their immediate deportation and nothing less! It's like black on black crime, unless they start killing affluent white people nothing will be done. Arm and protect yourselfs!

Thank you SC Senators and House Members. All these illegals just running around free as bird and nobody knows who they really are; not even those who knowingly and illegal HIRE them.!!

Harrell and McConnell need to be replaced like YESTERDAY!

Next thing you know, we will be hearing of gang rapes committed by illegals. In fact, not long ago 3 illegal mexicans did just that to a white woman in front of her 4 year old child!

Punish those who employ these illegals without mercy!

raregar67, I haven't yet seen a nakedpork post that was worth responding too. He's just a troll.

Now, when this does get to a circuit judge, will he set bond and then actually expect this man to show up for his court date?

On Headline News this morning, the story of a 10 year old girl in Idaho giving birth. She was raped by an illegal alien last year. I did not get a chance to find out why her parents had her go through with the pregnancy. For a child that young, having a baby had to be a danger to her own life.

Moonpie, thank you for noticing how alot of these men treat women with the learing etc. Whenever I point that out and the way I have been sexually harassed by these men (spit on, growled at, followed home and taunted) etc. someone always gets on the thread and blames me! It is the culture they come from folks. Multiply that by the millions and you start to have serious problems.

I agree with Jane...I was waiting in line at the Auto Parts store a couple of months ago and I could see from the corner of my eye this guy staring. When I looked over, he made obscene jesters right in front of everyone...latino of course. Two guys I have never met before jumped all over this guy letting him know that women are not treated like that in this country. Later they told me they see this behavior all the time and they always watch out for it.

Posted by Jane on May 8, 2008 at 9:59 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Allwoman, count your blessings. It is no fun trust me. You never know what a man might do who acts like that. He has blatantly let you know he has no respect for you as a person. I am guilty of running and working out so maybe they like fit women and have a degrading and disgusting way of showing their "appreciation" and trust me, I say appreciation very sarcasticly!

So let me get this straight... women don't like it when we leer, whistle, hoot and hooler? Guess I need to make some changes...

My daughter is 11 yrs old and she was followed all around K-Mart by two hispanic men that were probably older than 25. When I asked if I can help them with anything one of them remarked "eees very pretty". Unacceptable behavior for grown men, not to mention as possibly very dangerous to young girls. A friend of mine has a 17 yr old daughter, very blonde and pretty, and she won't even go to Walmart by herself anymore. Has been approached inside the store and again in the parking lot on a few occassions. Again, unacceptable.

If we try to do anything about these illegals we may have to pay more for lettuce and mow our own lawns!! Think about it.

There were some awesome stories throughout the paper today. Then came this one…

For sure this guy was a pig and was not going to stop until either he or his roommate was dead…looks like he’s the “lucky” one.

On another note, I am always amazed and disappointed that an entire race can be decried by the actions of a few and how anger and frustration is used as justification for stereotyping and relentless mean-spiritedness. Sure, the folks of the United States have a right to be p*$$ed about illegal immigration, the solution with that lies with lawmakers who are unwilling to fix it and lose their personal monetary gains. Thomas1776 hit that point in his 0647 post.

I appreciate those who typically make the point that trouble comes in all races; I would venture to say the impact of crime is the same on a victim whether the perpetrator was an illegal alien or US citizen. Would you feel better if a white/black/Asian/other freak gave you elevator eyes, followed your kid(s) around a store, or caused a traffic accident in which your family member was hurt or killed---and did not have auto insurance? I hope not.

Forget:

If you would try and understand Latin cultural you would not think this was a problem. The Chamber of Commerce says we need these people here to do necessary jobs. Many business are doing their best to keep this people employed. I would suggest a visit Mexico to get a better understanding of our new neighbors and to learn their customs and values.

Posted by theronce on May 8, 2008 at 11 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Respect for women is indeed rare in the world. Look to most Asian and Middle Eastern cultures where women are little more than slaves. Many American and South Carolina men have their problems, but their bad behavior is not culturally or morally accepted. The Latino culture has less problems than some but more than ours and should not be tolerated here. I will defend my ladies and have provides them with a means to help themselves when I may not be around.

I said it before and I'll say it again. We are not getting the desirables from our spanish neighbor, we are getting the human waist of a failed society. unfortunate but true!

JohnS - that is why I have chosen NOT to live in those countries. This is the one I live in, so why do WE have to conform to their culture and customs. I do know the Latin culture as I was once married to someone of hispanic (Puertican) descent, and I still have a hispanic last name. Immigrants used to come to this country because they wanted to become Americans, and they assimilated to the culture in this country. I asked an illegal worker one day why he was here in this country, if he wanted to be an American. He said no, he was Guatamalan - never American. He said he was here because of the dollars. That's the difference between the immigrants that come over legally as opposed to the illegal ones. Legal immigrants want to be a part of society, to become a part of the "American Dream" so to speak.

Posted by Jane on May 8, 2008 at 11:17 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Of course losing a loved one by any means is unbearable, but to have a loved one raped, murdered, or killed by an illegal is a crime that would not have happened if we enforced our immigration laws. I am so sick of people saying, "Yes, but citizens do it too!" Precisely! We don't need to be importing it! As far as disrespect for women. Alot of men born in this country disrespect women, but women and men have fought long and hard to make it socially unacceptable. Unfortunately, it is socially acceptable by too many societies and letting them here by the millions is showing that. Not even the most brazen pedophile would follow a child around in the store and then tell the mom, "she's pretty!". They would high tail it out of there when confronted by the mom. Those illegals saying that to the mom's face just shows that they think it is socially acceptable behavior! Pedophilia is socially acceptable in parts of Mexico. Pointing out the criminal element and lack of respecrt for females is a very valid argument against illegal immigration (and quite frankly some legal immigration as well).

I think the people on this board need to go to a sensitivity and also a cultural diversity class. I realize some of you have been socialize to think that this country is a melting pot and immigrants who come here should apply for green cards, learn our ways, speak English, obey our laws, pull their weigh, not to be a burden on our system, etc etc. If you still think this way, then our re-education camps will help you in readjusting your thinking from the pre-cultural revolution days to the post cultural revolution.

I understand there are some on this board that are hard nuts to crack and may not want to be politically correct or subject their thinking to progressive thought. For those people we have special individual training with the possibility of certain drugs to correct this behavior and thought process. I assure you that our re-educational camps will be painless and you come away with a new outlook on life. Right now these classes are voluntary but someday they will be mandatory and we look forward to seeing you.

My lunch break is over and I'm due back in class.

Riptidde - you sound like some of these know-it-all college students that have all the answers to the worlds probems. You know the type, the ones that gather and spew out all this "anti-establishment" crap. That is until they graduate and get out into the real world and have to live on the money they make and not their parents. Then they see what everything is all about. Apparently you haven't loss your construction job that you have had for 23 years, but the hispanics are still there, nor have you been at a county building and seen what people are sitting in there waiting for public assistance. You get the drift. While you are in your culteral diversity class, the rest of us are in the school of real life. Can't wait for you to join us, looking forward to seeing YOU there.

when mexicans first started to arrive in charleston there was no troubles from them. Now it seems they are in trouble with the law everytime we turn around. I guess that's what happens when mexicans hang around with blacks. It rubs off on them. Now they are in competition with each other on who can commit the most crime.

Posted by ColdBeer on May 8, 2008 at 2:40 p.m. (Suggest removal)

I'm thinking that your reasoning is incorrect scnative4ever. You will see more and more crime from the illegal alien population, that's a given, but it's not due to "hanging around with blacks". Especially when you consider the two groups don't usually hang out together.

There is a standard progression when illegal aliens move in to an area.
1) They don't use banks for fear of being identified, so they become easy targets for crime. We're already seeing them as victims of crime on a daily basis.
2) They learn to never do anything or go anywhere alone. Notice how you seldom see a hispanic man walking down the street alone? They are always in groups of three or more for protection.
3) The protection mode ends up in them developing gangs.
4) Once these gangs experience some success in preventing members from becoming victims, they start getting power hungry. They then develop in to real gangs that get involved in territory rifts, drug dealing and prostitution.
5) Once the drug dealing starts, the drug use sky rockets.
6) Once the drug use goes up, petty crime (theft, burglary and such) go up so they can support their habits.
7) Petty crime progresses to violent, serious crimes as the petty robberies and such go bad.

chief, most posters here have not mentioned race, just criminals who have a different culture with different standards of behavior in relation to the treatment of women, the regard for law, and one's responsibilities to their neighbor. riptide, you got it at least partially right with your camps. In another life, I was required to attend a class that encouraged me to think a certain way towards people. It was kind of boring. It was old information found in the Bible about not respecting persons for whatever reason. Anyway, from personal experience, these "camps" do exist and are already required for certain populations. Unfortunately, we need to tell some people often how to treat all people. On the other hand, we have some people who do not know the difference between discrimination and discernment.

Posted by ln1959 on May 8, 2008 at 3:06 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Well scnative4eve..I see your showing your ignorance again. Thought you took time off to get a brain transplant, but we all wish.

First of all, Mexicans and Blacks don't hang together. They hate blacks just as much as white people like you hate Blacks.

Most Mexicans consider them self closer to being White, so you sure there not in your family.

So the next time you wont to comments about other races know the facts and leave your back yard for a change.

Posted by Chief_SittingBull on May 8, 2008 at 3:24 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Theronce,
Give me break. Even in cases where "Mexican" and "Hispanic" were not specifically mentioned, "Mexico" and “Tijuana” was. I guess you are trying to tell me that the remarks here are inclusive of all illegal aliens and many of the shared “horror stories” are not just about “Mexicans”? Try selling that to someone else.

Heck, the comments have even turned “black” since I last posted and “many of the posts are not about race?” Let’s be real; I know better and so do you.

Posted by ColdBeer on May 8, 2008 at 3:51 p.m. (Suggest removal)

My post about illegal aliens did not condemn the entire hispanic race. I was speaking specifically to illegal aliens. If you read anything else in to it, that was not my intention. Yes, the same crimes that are committed by illegal aliens are also committed by naturalized citizens of all races. I don't think anyone is doubting that. Well, maybe a couple. Racism isn't dead... yet.
