Wesley UMW

The public is invited to fellowship with the United Methodist Women of Wesley United Methodist Church, 1008 Highway 315, Moncks Corner, during their annual Prayer Brunch on May 17 at 11 a.m. The guest speaker will be Eartha Goodwin, chairwoman of the Nominations Committee, Charleston District UMW. Donation is $5.

Fleet Reserve 269

Fleet Reserve Association Branch 269 conducts its General Assembly meeting 7 p.m. on the third Thursday of the month at the Lowcountry Home, 99 Wisteria Road, Goose Creek. The board of directors meets at 6 p.m. Membership is open to active, Reserve, veteran and retired enlisted members of the sea services — Navy, Marines and Coast Guard. Go to www.fra269.org.

Stadium sale

The Citadel Women's Club will hold its annual yard sale 8 a.m.-noon May 24 at the Altman Center in the end zone at Johnson Hagood Stadium on Hagood Avenue at Fishburne Street.

Everything from cleaning supplies, towels and T-shirts to furniture, electronics and school supplies will be on sale. All proceeds support scholarships for cadets.

The annual stadium sale started 12 years ago when it was noticed that cadets discarded many usable items at the end of each academic year.

It's not too late to donate items to the yard sale. To donate, contact John Carter at 953-7953 or Susie Maghakian at 953-5060.

Metal detecting

The Metal Detecting Club in Summerville meets at 7 p.m. the first Saturday of each month at 801 Travelers Blvd., Summerville. E-mail dcox4@sc.rr.com.

Airborne chapter

The Airborne Association, Swamp Fox chapter, meets the third Saturday of the month at 1 p.m. at American Legion Post 166, Goose Creek. The chapter is open to active and ex-military personnel of all branches of service who qualified to wear the "Jump Wings." Participants do not have to be a member of the American Legion to take part in the chapter's activities. Post 166 is at 116 Howe Hall Road, off Redbank Road. Tin Can Sailors

The Tin Can Sailors of Goose Creek meet at American Legion Post 166, 116 Howe Hall Road, at 7:30 p.m. the fourth Wednesday of every month. The association is open to all sailors who sailed on destroyer tenders. Meeting attendees do not have to be members of the American Legion. Visit www.destroyers.org. Needlepoint Guild

The Charleston Chapter of the American Needlepoint Guild meets 10 a.m.-2 p.m. the fourth Tuesday of each month at Old St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 2604 Ashley River Road. "Stitch-ins" are held 10 a.m.-noon other Tuesdays.

Submarine veterans

The U.S. Submarine Veterans Charleston Base holds its membership meeting the second Thursday of every month at the Fleet Reserve Association Home, 99 Wisteria Road, Goose Creek.

Social hour starts at 6 p.m., with the business meeting at 7. Membership is open to those who have qualified in submarines and received an honorable discharge from the Navy. Annual membership dues are $35. Light refreshments will be served. Visit www.ussvicb.org.

Decorative painters

The Charleston Chapter of Decorative Painters meets 9 a.m.- 1 p.m. the fourth Saturday of every month at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 150 E. Montague Ave., North Charleston.

The meeting is open to artists who are interested in exploring the art form. The scope of decorative painting is wide, covering all styles of painting and employing all mediums.

Membership is open to everyone regardless of talent. Two meetings may be attended as a guest. After a short business meeting, a program of painting, learning and sharing new techniques is held.

Scottish dancers

The Charleston Scottish Country Dancers meet 7:30-9 p.m. Thursdays at the Felix C. Davis Community Center, 4800 Park Circle, North Charleston. The nonprofit's dance classes are free, and there are no dues. Call 745-1028.

Embroiderers Guild

The Magnolia Chapter of the Embroiderers Guild of America meets 1:30-4 p.m. the second Sunday of each month. Contact Bonnie at 556-5670.
