3 finalists named in search for president of S.C. State

ORANGEBURG — South Carolina State University has named the three finalists to become the school's new president. The field was narrowed after five of the 42 applicants visited the campus last week. Search committee Chairman Maurice Washington said the board could meet as early as next week to discuss who to hire. Washington said he expects the new president to take office by July 1. The three finalists are: --Johnson Akinleye, associate vice chancellor for academic programs at the University of North Carolina, Wilmington. --George Cooper, deputy administrator for Science and Education Resources Development at the U.S. Department of Agriculture. --Juanita Fain, vice president for planning at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
