Clash of Carolinas rosters brimming with local talent

The second annual Clash of the Carolinas, which features the best senior soccer players from South Carolina vs. their counterparts in North Carolina, will be held July 12 at Blackbaud Stadium on Daniel Island. Midfielder Justin Barlotta of Summerville, defender Rudi Hellberger of Fort Dorchester and midfielder Luke Hogan of Wando were selected to play for the boys' South Carolina team. Local girls selected to play in the event include defender Emily Farrier of Academic Magnet, forward Shawn Haviland and defender Sandi Hudson of Wando and defender Marissa Terry of James Island. Academic Magnet's Troy Bennage will coach the Palmetto State's girls' team. The Clash of the Carolinas is the only interstate event of its kind for high school soccer in the nation. Wando on a roll The Wando Warriors girls' soccer team continues to be on a roll as they prepare for tonight's second-round Class AAAA playoff game against the winner of the Fort Dorchester-Spring Valley game. The Warriors have outscored their opponents 100-3 in their last 20 matches after Monday's 9-0 victory over Conway. The Warriors did not give up a goal en route to the Region 7-AAAA title. Only two of the goals came in regulations The Warriors are currently ranked No. 11 in the nation in the latest NSCAA/adidas national poll. SCISA baseball SCISA has announced its all-state baseball selections, and the Lowcountry is well-represented. Local selections include Ryan Walker, First Baptist; Brandon Stone, First Baptist; Ryan Philpott, Northwood Academy; Thomas Levander, Northwood Academy; Austin Heflin, Pinewood Prep; Graham Gintz, Hilton Head Prep and Ryan Fiske, Colleton Prep. The Class AAA player of the year is Tyler Jackson of Robert E. Lee, while Luke Tollison of Laurens Academy is the Class AA-A player of the year. Brett Walsh of Ben Lippen is coach of the year. SCISA softball SCISA has announced its all-state selections in softball. Local selections include Anna Adkins, Colleton Prep; Katie Carpenter, Holly Hill Academy; Brittany Cheek, Holly Hill Academy; Paige Descaine, Pinewood Prep; Jessica Lewis, Cathedral Academy; Samantha Martin, Northwood Academy; Amber Venters, Pinewood Prep and Rhyne Young, Northwood Academy.
