State Sen. Robert Ford (far right) walks out of his fire-damaged house on Barrett Road in West Ashley on Sunday with his insurance representative, Gene Murray.
Fire damaged two bedrooms in state Sen. Robert Ford's West Ashley home Sunday night. Ford said he was overcome by smoke when he tried to enter the front door of his house at 1151 Barrett Road shortly before 7 p.m. He immediately called 911. "I couldn't get in the house," he said. "I opened the door and it hit me right in the face." A neighbor called 911 shortly before Ford arrived, and Charleston firefighters were on the scene within two minutes, said Mark Ruppel, fire department spokesman. Ruppel said the fire appears to have ignited in the front bedroom. The apparent cause was an electrical overload from a power cord, he said. The fire was extinguished in about 10 minutes. Luckily, Ford said the fire and smoke damage wasn't as bad as he originally thought. While smoke was everywhere, firefighters contained the flames in the bedrooms and the attic. All of his re-election campaign materials stored in his garage were salvaged. "The only thing destroyed is my wardrobe, which I'm most proud of," Ford said. Ford said he was returning home from a church service at Morris Street Baptist Church.

That would suck big time!
I have seen were those fragrance things you plug into the wall have caused many, many fires.
Any way, I'm glad it was not more serious!

This just in...Several years ago the good senator stated,..."a man gonna act like a man". Speculation has arose the good senator's boxer shorts erupted in flames after a stellar performance thus contributing to the cause. Be advised this is merely speculation.

Sen. Robert Ford, D-Charleston, said Sunday that he had heard about the arrest, and though he didn't know the details, there's no doubt in his mind that the arrest was politically motivated. "It sounds like a political setup," he said.
Ford said no other public officials are taken to jail on a DUI charge weeks before an election. He said it's idealistic to think that's because they're not drinking and driving.
"They've never done it before," Ford said of arresting politicians. "If they're going to do it for him, I'm demanding they do it for everyone in the future."
Miller responded to Ford's comments by saying that it was simply an arrest of someone accused of driving intoxicated. He said more details will be available in a police report released today or Tuesday

I am sure the white man is going to be blamed for purposely designing an electrical power cord that singles out blacks and makes them victims. Jesse Jackson has probably already filed a class action discrimination lawsuit that will eventually drive the manufacturer of the power cord out of business. Al Sharpton is likely enroute to stage a protest rally inciting blacks to riot in West Ashley and burn down the houses of Ford's white neighbors. Councilman Wendall Gaillard will be on hand to ensure a proper ratio of blacks are members of the fire department called out to fight the blazes and to make sure there are no plans for future white owned businesses in the area. The Rev. Joe Darby, along with the national leadership of the NAACP, will show up soon afterward to proclaim another hard fought victory in the name of civil rights, immediately asking for cash contributions. Finally, Mayor Riley will likely declare Ford's house a national historical site then use tax dollars to buy the property and build a memorial in honor of the Senator's wardrobe.
Hey, it could happen...

I imagine the fire could have been caused by sparks when the mortgage and insurance policy rubbed together...

Kerry,
Don't forget about Dot Scott !
I'm sure she would want to join the bandwagon of racist too!. Too bad Ford wasn't Jewish, the blaze could have been caused by Jewish Lighting. On 2nd thought, with all those black and brown wires overloading the circuit I'm sure it was the lone white wire that caused the fire!
"Super Bad" that is funny! Watch Out Homey! Big Daddy is heading to Bluesteins!

KERRY: WAY TO GO VERY FUNNY,But I could see it happening..Maybe Brother Ford needed some extra money to pay off video poker debts or election money for his campaign. You ask how could he get the money,POOF his house catches fire Wow imagine that. I wonder if only black fire fighters answered the call and if they were white will brother Ford say they didnt do agood job..
