School board's Cook plans to run for County CouncilThe Post and Courier

The Post and Courier Nancy Cook One of Charleston County School Board's most vocal members, Vice Chairwoman Nancy Cook, announced Thursday that she is running for Charleston County Council District 6. Cook has filed as a Republican with hopes of unseating veteran Councilman Curtis Bostic, also a Republican. A Charleston native who lives in North Charleston, Cook has served on the school board for the past eight years. She is known for her involvement in day-to-day operations of the district, and in her years as chairwoman, Cook was the voice of the board. "Now I'm looking to help Charleston County be a better place to live," she said. "We face many problems in a growing county, and I have the necessary experience and motivation to solve them." Cook said she would be a reliable voice for those living in District 6. The district includes parts of North Charleston, West Ashley's northernmost neighborhoods and parts of the county's rural areas approaching Meggett. She said she plans to push for fiscal responsibility, transparency of governmental affairs, economic development with smart planning and growth, consolidating county services for efficiency, more county parks and green-space preservation. Bostic said he welcomes the competition, and he encouraged constituents to consider his record on County Council over the past eight years "with no tax increases and efficient government. They can compare that to the school board's record for the same period of time." Cook said she is proud of improvements made during her tenure on the school board, including a new processing system that better monitors expenses, more coherent curriculum countywide and diagnostic testing so teachers can better determine what type of remediation students need. The mother of two graduated from Middleton High School in 1981. She received her bachelor's degree in psychology from Limestone College and a master's degree in counseling from Webster University. Uh, last time I checked, we still had a few problems left to fix with the CCSD. It's not quite time to close the book and move on.

Are you kidding me? She is going to run on her record with the CCSD? Voters, don't make the same mistake again - get this train wreck out of public office once and for all. In fact, maybe she should resign her seat on the CCSD board now so she can dedicate all of her time to this race.
