Parts of Mt. P's main drag closed for tests

Friday, March 28, 2008

Mount Pleasant — Johnnie Dodds Boulevard will be affected by lane closures from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. today through Monday so that testing can be done for the design of a project to widen the boulevard, town officials said Thursday.

The boulevard, its frontage roads and side streets will be affected from the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge to the Interstate 526/Chuck Dawley Boulevard interchange.

Only one lane will be closed and at no point will the entire road be blocked, officials said. The single-lane closures will be continuous, moving from one portion of the road to the next as the work progresses so that the entire area won't be closed at any time during the testing.

The testing will occur in 100-foot increments and last less than two minutes per location. During the testing, trucks with lighted flashing arrow signs will be on site to warn drivers of the approaching lane closures.

The boulevard improvements are funded by the half-cent sales tax.
