Former legislator makes bid for Senate

Friday, March 28, 2008

SUMMERVILLE — Mike Rose announced Thursday his candidacy for state Senate District 38.

Rose, who served in the Senate from 1988 to 1997, said local leaders concerned about growth urged him to run for the seat that includes parts of Dorchester and Charleston counties.

"Growth is becoming a real issue in our community while state spending continues out of control," he said in a press release. "As senator, I was recognized for my votes to limit government spending and taxes, and for tougher ethics laws. I've also been known for tackling the tough issues and getting things done. And that's what we need now, particularly on the growth issues facing our community."

Rose, a Republican, grew up in North Charleston and is now an attorney and businessman. He holds a law degree from New York University School of Law and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

The District 38 seat is held by Republican Sen. Randy Scott.

As I understand it, Mike Rose was instrumental in bringing Dorchester County Probate Judge Shelton J. Parker to justice in a fraud case from circa 1992.

I would certainly hope that Mr. Rose is still interested in “tough ethics, tackling tough issues and getting things done”. One of Parker’s past frauds has come to light. While Parker is deceased, there are co-defendants who are very much alive.

Mike Rose doesn’t take money from real estate agents or developers, construction companies or bankers that profit from out-of-control growth.

Randy Scott gets THEIR money.

Randy Scott has a conflict of interest on this issue and Mike Rose doesn’t.
