Thursday, March 27, 2008
SUMMERVILLE — Former state senator Mike Rose announced today his candidacy for the state senate seat in District 38. That seat includes parts of Dorchester and Charleston counties and is currently held by Republican Sen. Randy Scott. Rose, who served in the state senate from 1988 to 1997, said local leaders concerned about growth urged him to run. "Growth is becoming a real issue in our community while state spending continues out of control," he said in his press release. "As senator, I was recognized for my votes to limit government spending and taxes, and for tougher ethics laws. I've also been known for tackling the tough issues and getting things done. And, that's what we need now, particularly on the growth issues facing our community." Rose grew up in North Charleston and is now an attorney and businessman. He holds a law degree from New York University School of Law and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
