Steve's Place

The Post and Courier

Steve's Place

Steve's Place in North Charleston is a neighborhood bar that prides itself on being biker-friendly.

Any night of the week, the parking lot of Steve's is filled with motorcycles and locals from North Charleston and Summerville, which is virtually next door to the Dorchester Road bar.

On the night of my visit, longtime bartender Tracy (it was a busy night, so there was little time for getting last names) was courteous and accommodating, ensuring that every customer had what he or she needed. One customer made a point of telling me she had once been a bartender at Steve's, but even as a nonemployee it remained her favorite place to socialize, as she knew most of the clientele. A neighborhood bar indeed.

Local motorcycle enthusiasts and even entire motorcycle clubs also have made Steve's their second home. Biker-sponsored charity events, oyster roasts and basic camaraderie often takes place both inside and in the parking lot of Steve's.

Steve's offers pool, a number of video games and plenty of TVs for watching sports. Besides the sizable main bar, which is accessible from all sides, there also is a small side bar near the billiards area, making it always easy to get service. That the bar staff works hard to make sure everyone is satisfied also makes for a customer-friendly experience.

Steve's also offers a full menu of everything from burgers to chicken wings, and the kitchen is open from 11 a.m. to midnight daily.

Owner Steve Akins has every right to be proud of the North Charleston neighborhood bar that bears his name.
