More trouble for Clemson linebacker Vincent

CLEMSON — Clemson linebacker Cortney Vincent appears to be in trouble again.

According to multiple sources familiar with the situation, Vincent is facing a possible suspension for the entire spring practice because of a violation of team policy.

Vincent, who will be a senior in the 2008 season, still has charges pending for a December DUI arrest.

He has requested a jury trial that probably won't take place until the summer, according to the Pickens County magistrate's office.

Clemson begins spring practice Saturday. Athletic department spokesman Tim Bourret said all announcements regarding personnel will take place then.

The Tigers' linebacker corps was already thin after the loss of Nick Watkins and Tramaine Billie. Antonio Clay is not on campus for the spring semester, and it's unknown whether he will return for his senior season.

Vincent started all 12 regular-season games at middle linebacker at 2007. He played in the Tigers' Chick-fil-A Bowl loss to Auburn, but he did not start as punishment for the DUI arrest.

On Nov. 10, 2005, Vincent was arrested for simple assault after a fight with his girlfriend on campus. Head coach Tommy Bowden has said those charges were dropped.

Vincent ranked sixth on the team in tackles last season with 68, including seven for loss and two sacks.

Two incoming freshman linebackers won't be available when the Tigers start spring practice. Stanley Hunter is expected to miss at least two weeks for undisclosed reasons. Tarik Rollins is still recovering from a knee injury suffered in high school and is expected to miss most, if not all, of the 15 practices.

Wait, what did he do? I read the article 3 times and all it did was catalogue prior offenses. That being said, I tend to agree with you, theronce.

the vast majority of the time, violation of team rules signifies missing class or Vickery study hall time.....and there is no tolerance for that---and ALL the players are aware (didn't he see what happened to Nick and Tremaine, both seniors?)....I must agree the suspension needs to be upheld whether or not Courtney's trial is decided favorably.

Just kick him off the team. He plays middle line backer, he should have led the team in tackles. There are a lot of talented kids right here in the lowcountry who would die to have the opportunity that some of these screw ups have. Committ a crime, you should lose your scholarship, period. If they get away with driving drunk, and beating up girls in college, then don't be amazed when they turn pro, and start getting high, carrying guns, and fighting dogs. Stop setting these kids up for failure, just so some coach can keep his money rolling in. Coaches defend them as long as they can, and when the kid finally hangs himself, the coach turns his back on them, jump on an airplane, and find another high school athlete to screw up

Time for Clemson fans to eat a liitle crow. Who would have thought that there are bad apples on every team not just Carolina.

Tommy will not need him for the spring so you can assure that he will be suspended. What do you bet he is starting in the first game of the season.

Unlike Spurrier who has already suspended players for actual games for violations of team policy.

What is a worse punishment, being suspended from sprng drills or for actual games??? Is a suspension from spring drills an actual punishment?? I guess for Clemson it is.
