Always fun to be back in The Pour House

The Pour House at 1977 Maybank Hwy
The Pour House on James Island is not only a great bar, but one of my favorite places to see live music in the Lowcountry. A quality PA system, a good sounding room and just the right vibe has fast made the Pour House one of the best live music venues in town. Originally catering to mainly the jam band and bluegrass scene, the Pour House has branched out over the past year featuring a variety of genres with Americana bands such as Blue Mountain and recent Johnny Cash and Beatles tributes being a few examples. Local acts including Cary Ann Hearst, Leslie and the soon-to-be San Francisco-bound band A Decent Animal also have regularly packed the house. Also worth noting is that "Metal Mondays" ('80s metal karaoke with a live band), arguably one of the most popular features at the now defunct Cumberland's on King St., has moved to the Pour House, where it remains alive and well. The room itself is sizeable, yet not too large for an intimate concert and the back patio is larger than one might imagine from looking at the Pour House's facade. The Pour House and the adjoining El Bohio restaurant are both smoke-free establishments, yet the patio is ideal for smokers and patrons in general when the weather is nice. The bar staff at the Pour House is hard working and friendly and I have always had the same experience with everyone from the soundman to the person checking ID's at the door. I've always gotten the impression that it's a team effort and it shows. For a fun evening of live music or just enjoying the company of good friends, the Pour House is always a sure bet.
