Man stabs self, dies in cooking accident

Tuesday, March 4, 2008

ANDERSON — Authorities say a man has died after he accidentally stabbed himself while cooking.

Anderson County Chief Deputy Coroner Charlie Boseman says 32-year-old Michael Downing burned himself Sunday, then stabbed himself in the chest with a steak knife he was holding as he jerked his hand away.

Authorities say the knife went between Downing's ribs, piercing his heart.

Boseman says Downing managed to call 911, and his 10-year-old son followed the dispatcher's first aid instructions. Authorities say Downing was conscious when paramedics arrived but died at the hospital.

It sounds weird but I can see this happening. Just one of those freak things. I feel bad for his son.

Typically, I laugh when I hear all the odd stories from Anderson. This is just awful, though.

That stinks, bless his family.
Also, if he was drinking he joins the gazillion-billion-quantillion people that have prepared a meal drinking. So what.

I wonder if there's a Mom in the picture to take care of the kids. They're going to need a bit of help for a few years after seeing this. I hope they'll be okay.

Sometimes I read stories like these.... I just don't KNOW what to say!
Prayers for his family, hope his kids are more careful than he was.

Hey, Maybe they can sue the grille manufacturer!
