YMCA to sponsor recreational youth soccer

The Summerville Family YMCA will sponsor recreational soccer and host Lowcountry Youth Soccer League teams to provide challenging, enthusiastic competition, the Y announced.

The league focuses on skill development, team play and conditioning. Games will be played at both the YMCA Oakbrook Sports Complex and in the Charleston area. Coaches will be expected to participate in a three-hour certification class, time and place to be announced.

--Registration for ages 11-14 is July 7 to Aug. 7. Practices will begin Aug. 11 at the Oakbrook Sports Complex.

--The season will run from Aug. 23 to Oct. 25. Fees are $65 for Family Y members, $85 for youth members and $110 for non-members.

--Registration for the 2008 fall Youth Soccer League, for ages 4 to 17, will be July 7 to Aug. 25. A coaches meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 26. The season will run from Sept. 20 to Nov. 15, with playoffs to follow. Fees are $35 for Family Y members, $55 for youth members and $80 for non-members.

--Registration will be July 7 to Aug. 25 for the Mini-Soccer League, for 3-year-olds only. A coaches meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 26. A coaches clinic will take place at 10 a.m. Sept. 6 and 13 at Oakbrook and the season will run from Sept. 20 to Nov. 15. There will be no playoffs. Fees are $20 for Family Y members, $30 for youth members and $40 for non-members.

Financial assistance is available for all YMCA sports programs.
