Police seek information on break-ins, rapes

Staff report
Friday, June 27, 2008

Police are seeking information about several break-ins and sexual assaults that occurred in downtown Charleston and one incident in North Charleston.

In five cases since the spring of 2007, young women have been confronted in their homes by an intruder.

Two of the victims were raped, and there were sexual aspects to the other cases.

Police have directly linked the rapes, and they are investigating whether the same man was involved in the other cases.

Victims described their assailant as a tall, heavy-set black man in his middle 20s to age 30 with puffy cheeks and short hair or a shaved head.

To provide information, call Charleston police at 577-7434, North Charleston police at 554-5700 or Crime Stoppers at 554-1111.
