Murder charge against Morosi dropped

Prosecutors say case evidence points to self defense

Morosi

Morosi

— Prosecutors have dropped a murder charge against a female escort accused of shooting a man in her bedroom, saying the case evidence now points to self-defense.

Stephanie Morosi had been charged with murdering Jason Maxwell Truitt after shooting him in her bedroom in September 2006. She was supposed to go on trial this week.

In an announcement today, 9th Circuit Solicitor Scarlett Wilson said the case evidence showed Morosi was in fear of Truitt, an extremely large man and one-time roommate, and had even attended criminal domestic violence workshops.

“All the case evidence points to Morosi protecting herself,” the statement said.

Morosi had advertised her services as a female escort on a racy Internet site.

She shot Truitt twice inside the bedroom of her brick ranch house. She pleaded not guilty to the charge of murder.

In March, Circuit Judge Markley Dennis ordered her trial be given a “date certain” to go forward this week. The timing was in response to a motion for a speedy trial filed by her attorney.

Judging from the details that have been made public about this case, there was no way to escape the "shadow of doubt" No chance of a conviction here.

If they say its self-defense, good for her. One less rapist to worry about.

Is there any possibility that she may be charged with something lesser than murder?

This is crap. "She was in fear of Truitt." She set him up and murdered him. Then, she pulled some bs and made it look like self defense. Oh big man and little ole me. Please. This prostitute knew what she was doing.

For the record, I know neither of them. Based on her attitude (she posts here) and what I've read from this story, this is my conclusion.

the first poster nailed this. if there's no reasonable chance of a conviction, no sense wasting the taxpayers money

I don't know them either but...Most abusers are nothing more than wimpy little boys with limpy little "toys" that feel the need to beat and/or break a person smaller or weaker than themselves to boost their own ego. If it took a set-up to stop the abusive/stalking/threatening behavior then TERRIFIC for her! If this was a set up, as inferred above, attending a Criminal Domestic Violence Workshop was absolutely BRILLIANT on her part!

I did know Jason, I do not know this woman. Jason was a creep who loved to pound on women and play with swords, knives and collected some really morbid stuff. He used to brag that his parents gave him the name of Maxwell because of the Beatles song "Maxwells Silver Hammer". It really was just a matter of time.

What about for being a ho? Can we charge her with that?

Ironic how the prostitution part never comes to light. Ex-gov Spitzer ring any bells?

Must be more of that new, updated, aggressive, FAIR justice system only seen in this area!

They shouldn't have waited almost 2 yrs. If there was no evidence to prove that it wasn't self defense then the charges should have been dropped a long time ago.
Personally, I think she is a flaming psycho, and it's just a matter of time before she does kill someone unjustly.
The prosecutors should have read all of her posts from the P&C website, and maybe they might have had a different picture of her.
Unfortunately, there is no law against being a weirdo, and apparently escort services, a fancy way of saying prostitution, are of no concern to the solicitor's office.
Time has a way of taking care of all things.

RTC,I'm with you 100%!!!!!!!I could'nt have said it better! She even looks like a physco, huh? What was he doing in her bedroom anyway? hmmmmmm. If someone would go into my bedroom uninvited,I would be calling the police sooooo fast. She knew exactly what she was doing!AND GOT AWAY WITH IT. Bet she's laughing at those detectives.

The SC Dept of Revenue and the IRS CID Div needs to look at this person.
