MONCKS CORNER — The public is encouraged to attend a public meeting Thursday night about plans to widen part of Interstate 26 and build an interchange at Sheep Island Road.
The State Infrastructure Bank has promised Berkeley County $115.8 million to build the interchange at mile marker 197 and to widen the interstate from the U.S. Highway 17A exit to a mile past the Jedburg Road exit at mile marker 194. The plan also includes building extensions from the interchange to a proposed Sheep Island Parkway and Old Dairy Road.
The money wasn't available this year, but the county is moving forward with planning for permitting purposes.
Officials say building the interchange will accommodate several economic development projects off Sheep Island Road and lessen the strain on local neighborhoods and roads.

Any changes to the Jedburg exit would be a great improvement.

115 million.mmmmmmm I wonder which Berkeley county official's friend won this big ole contract. I mean since Berkeley county is in such a bind according to the newspaper report how can they afford this. And since we have all those county workers and equipment why are they not doing all the clearing of the land and anything else they can do to save money on this project since we already pay their salaries and the equipment is paid for...Sounds like someone needs to dig a little bit deeper into this project to look for the waste and bidding process...
