District 111, Berkeley County Council runoffs today

The Post and Courier
Tuesday, June 24, 2008

Charleston County voters in House District 111 and voters in Berkeley County Council District 3 will go to the polls from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. today to decide separate runoffs.

In House District 111, the Democratic runoff pits Charleston City Councilman Wendell Gilliard against Iraq war veteran Clay Middleton. The winner faces no Republican opposition this fall and is all but assured of succeeding retiring state Rep. Floyd Breeland.

In Berkeley County's District 3, Republican voters will choose between 11-year planning commission member Billy Elrod and Bob Call, a former councilman trying to return after 14 years. The winner also faces no Democratic opponent this fall.

Berkeley County voters in District 3 who voted in the Democratic primary earlier this month can't vote today, and neither can District 111 voters who voted in the GOP primary June 10. Turnout is expected to be light in both races.

The polling places in both races will be the same as those used June 10.
