Tony the Peanut Man threw out the first pitch at a RiverDogs baseball game June 13, much to the delight of the crowd and the popular Lowcountry goober vendor himself.

Oddly, Tony was nowhere to be seen a little later in the game when Charleston's new superhero, Peanut Man, appeared for the first time to debut his action comic book called, what else, "Peanut Man."

Tony Wright recently told The Post and Courier where the comic book can be acquired, and he talked about events related to the new mag.

It's hot. "The Charleston Recreation Department has ordered 1,000 of them, and the North Charleston Recreation Department ordered 2,500," said Tony, or was it Peanut Man? After all, it was a telephone conversation, not face to face.

The comic book can be purchased at Captain's Comics & Toys, 1209 Sam Rittenberg Blvd. (766-6611), and Cross Garden Center, 840 St. Andrews Blvd. (766-1687).

Tony reports that Peanut Man will have a book signing 10 a.m.-3 p.m. July 11 at the West Ashley Barnes & Noble. And he will be featured at the Lowcountry Peanut Festival (www.lowcountrypeanutfestival.com) 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Oct. 18 at Riverfront Park in North Charleston.
