Former College of Charleston pitcher Nick Chigges has been promoted to the Charleston RiverDogs.

Former College of Charleston pitcher Nick Chigges joined the Charleston RiverDogs on Thursday in Columbus, Ga., for their upcoming road series against the Catfish.

Team officials have not announced an official roster move, though indicated there is a good possibility that roster moves were on the horizon in the next few days.

Chigges is rumored to be among the potential upcoming roster moves, but one team spokesman said nothing has been made official.

Chigges is a right-handed pitcher and graduate of Richland Northeast High School.

He was drafted by the New York Yankees in the 13th round of the 2007 amateur draft and spent the rest of that season with the Staten Island Yankees of the short-season New York-Penn League.

He compiled a record of 3-4 with two saves, with four starts among 19 appearances. In 55 innings of work, he had a 2.29 ERA and struck out 62 batters. He also gave up 14 earned runs on 43 hits and 21 walks.

When the Yankees broke camp for spring training, Chigges didn't make the RiverDogs roster and was left on the extended spring training list. With the second half of the South Atlantic League season under way, it looks as if Chigges is set to join the RiverDogs' pitching staff.

In four years at the College of Charleston, Chigges was 31-5 with a 3.12 ERA and 323 strikeouts.
