BEHIND BARS

'Healthy cocktails' So, this week I have only lost 3 out of the 5 pounds I wanted to lose. I decided to take my frustration out in the gym. The day got off to a normal start except for the fact I forgot to wear my belt with my shorts. So what's a guy to do; pull them up over my shrinking belly and man up. Well, Catherine Bell, star of "Army Wives," had just walked by and as Marietta from Blue Fish Fitness had me doing my favorite standing up crunches, my button popped off my shorts across the room and that very promptly ended my workout 10 minutes in. I opted to run home and change shorts and come back. Little did I know my trainer followed me home stalker-style and then proceeded to raid my refrigerator and give it the holy cleansing it and I needed. She said, "I have never seen so many salad dressings in my life." Well I happen to like variety in my life. Little did I know all but two of the 15 bottles were horrible for me. She continued her cleaning, and 20 minutes later I had an empty refrigerator and a great deal of knowledge of what I cannot have. Over the weekend I was producing entertainment for a very large wedding and came to the realization that there really is nothing at these events that I can eat. I have started packing carrot sticks with me. There is just something very wrong with the idea that while guests enjoy chateaux briand, I am eating carrots. The price we all have to pay. I am officially down 13 pounds in three weeks. This week's healthy cocktail comes to us from a friend out on Seabrook who is introducing us to the famous slushy watermelon mojito. The basic premise is that you take watermelon, seed it, scoop it out on a baking sheet and freeze it for two hours. You then combine that with an ounce of white rum, a splash or two of sparkling water or club soda, two squeezes of fresh lime, four scoops of the frozen watermelon. Blend that, serve cold and it is a fantastic cold cocktail to beat the summer heat. Tony cocktails Having watched a bit of the Tony Awards last Sunday, it got me thinking about some of the hottest cocktail trends in New York City. I called a friend and had them do some research for Preview. One of the most popular drinks in the city that never sleeps is very similar to what we enjoy right here at home: the peach mojito. The pomegranate mojito also is very popular. Presently, rose champagne is making a come back in the city. The brands to be seen within all of the clubs remain Perrier Jouet. Veuve does a very nice rose. Of course, as is the case in the film "Sex and the City," the cosmo is still a treat for all. What do you enjoy drinking when you go to the Big Apple? Firefly #1 It is official. Sweet Tea Vodka is the No. 1-selling flavored vodka in the state of South Carolina. It is no surprise that the combination of sweet taste and potency was a huge hit. However, reps tell us that distribution is growing very quickly, and it is making its way across the USA. Interestingly enough, the product has only been on the market for four weeks now. Social sake Social Wine Bar, 188 East Bay St., is serving summer flights of sake. Brad Ball, the wine bar's owner, admittedly loves sake and wants to teach everyone he can about the difference in serving the drink hot as opposed to serving it chilled. Social will feature a flight of three different types of chilled sake for $15. The types will rotate, and all guests will be able to enjoy a featured sake cocktail, The Tokyo Rose. Yo happy hour Yo Burrito, 77 Wentworth St., downtown, and at 675 Johnnie Dodds Blvd., Mount Pleasant, is kicking up the spice with its happy hour from 4 to 8 p.m. Enjoy $1 PBR (that's Pabst Blue Ribbon, for the uninitiated) and Miller High Life. There is $3 house vodka, bourbon and margaritas. Ask about the Monday night taco fiesta. For more details, log on to www.yoburrito.com.
