Man killed in car-truck crashSaturday, June 14, 2008
WALTERBORO — A 74-year-old Walterboro man died Thursday after his car hit a dump truck on S.C. Highway 64, the Highway Patrol said. The wreck occurred west of Walterboro when the truck turned onto the highway around 11:40 a.m., Cpl. Paul Brouthers said. A 2001 Volvo station wagon crashed into the back of the truck, Brouthers said. The man in the Volvo was wearing a seat belt, but was trapped inside and died at the scene. The Colleton County coroner did not return a phone call about the man's identity. The truck driver, Ronald Mole, 40, of Early Branch, was not injured, Brouthers said. Troopers determined that the other driver contributed to the collision. |

this has to be one of the worse written articles from in PC in a while.
"Troopers determined that the other driver contributed to the collision." what other driver. i wouldn't have put my name on it either if i wrote this article.

My condolences to the family.
I have to wonder if the volvo was in the right hand lane and he was one of those drivers that refused to try to let someone enter the road.

I extend my condolences to the family for their loss, but there has to be more to this if the troopers are saying the elderly fellow was to blame.
Dump trucks are big, really big. And Volvos are very safe, when driven appropriately. There's no way the elderly driver could have missed seeing a dump truck pull onto the highway, unless he wasn't paying attention.
Laws of physics apply to every one. Big trucks squish little cars. If the elderly driver had had his full faculties and full control of the vehicle, he should have been able to avoid the collision.
