Friday, June 13, 2008
Artemis survived another day in the top spot on the leaderboard of the 50th Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament being fished out of Morehead City, N.C. The 50-foot custom express boat owned by John Darby of Charleston has only one more day of fishing to see if its 640-pound blue marlin that was caught Monday will hold up for the top prize of $708,400 from the record $1,854,575 purse.
One hundred thirty-six of the 176 boats entered in the tournament fished today, releasing 36 billfish, including 24 blue marlin. The blue marlin release total after five days of the tournament is now 100.
Fishing hours Saturday are 8 a.m. until 2 p.m., but any boat hooked up at 2 p.m. can continue to fight its fish until it is either boated, released or lost.
