In 1969, four years before McCain was set free by the NVA, Ayers and the Weather Underground brought the terroristic "Days of Rage" to Chicago.

Three years before McCain's release from captivity, future education professor Ayers exclaimed, "Kill all the rich people. Break up their cars and apartments. Bring the revolution home, kill your parents, that's where it's really at."

One year before McCain achieved freedom, Ayers participated in a bombing of the Pentagon. Of that day, Ayers wrote: Everything was absolutely ideal on the day I bombed the Pentagon. The sky was blue. The birds were singing. And the bastards were finally going to get what was coming to them.

When Obama was questioned about his relationship with Ayers during the Pennsylvania debate, his initial impulse was to try to finesse the subject, then change it: When asked why he would be friends with the likes of Weatherman Bill Ayers, Obama said: "The notion that ... me knowing somebody who engaged in detestable acts 40 years ago, when I was 8 years old, somehow reflects on me and my values doesn't make much sense."

That's a slick answer, but the problem is, Ayers and his Weatherman wife, Bernadine Dohrn, won't stop boasting about their days as Weathermen.

I voted for Tim Scott too (for all those that always throw the racist label my way) not because of his skin color but because of his conservative views. Just like I'll vote for him when he runs for govenor one day. If the republicans put up say a JC Watts would they win the white house this yr? I doubt it because Barak is telling his party's voters what they want to hear and that's how the government can do more for you, take care of you, etc. All this on the backs of the middle class!

Just disregard Thomas1776's points. They are clearly the lunatic rants of someone who would select a president based on fashion accessories like lapel pins. It is fine to disagree with Obama on the merits of what he stands for, but that sort of nonsense is absurd.

On the subject at hand, however, I think this article overplays the significance of Scott's election. Sure, he might be the first black Republican elected since the 19th century. But, the real question is this: How many blacks have run as Republicans for the Statehouse since the 19th century?

One often hears claims of racial bias in voting patterns in civil rights lawsuits against government bodies (like Charleston County a year or so ago). The fact of the matter is that white people do not vote AGAINST black; they vote FOR Republicans (more than blacks do at least). In a conservative area, it is not surprising that few blacks are elected to public office without gerrymandering or some such device. Jim Clyburn would never be elected to office, for instance, if his Congressional district were not stretched out so far. He would be voted down based on his liberal positions, not his skin color.

It is curious that most blacks back the party that controlled the South during the days of legal slavery, led the South to secede, ended Reconstruction by taking power back from the Republicans in the 1870's, passed the Jim Crow laws, and belatedly put a Confederate battle flag on top of the top of the SC capitol in the early 1950's (so they say now) to honor the southern fallen during the War of Northern Aggression, fought the Civil Rights Act tooth and nail, and continues the their historical plantation control through economic slavery to the government.

In rereading this article, I've decided that this particular article is not race baiting. It IS significant and historical that we have black people running for offices and winning primaries that have not been won by black people before. One day, we'll wake up and have elections where race is not even mentioned. This is a step along that path. I'm not an Obama supporter by any stretch of imagination, but his candidacy is important and historical. I don't know much about Scott, but his election is also important and historical. I think that is the main focus of the article.

I still think that, overall, the media is pushing the race angle WAY too much.

Liberals need to wake up and smell the junk they are shovelling. When Bush took office the country was in the middle of a recession thanks to the high taxes of Bill Clinton and his short lived Democrat controlled congress. Bush cut taxes and the economy started moving again. Pelosi and the liberals get control a year and a half ago and again the economy was headed for recession but now Pres. Bush has worked to prevent that and even the Fed Chair says there is not much likelyhood of a recession. You revisionist liberals and Bush bashers better wake up before you end up being controlled by the government even more than you already are. The republicans right now have a lot of history to reread and they must relearn the truth about big gov't and the catastrophic pitfalls of the socialistic path they are on but at least they don't promote the murder of innocent unborn children like the democrats.

I have known Tim for fifteen years. He has solid values and is one of the kindest souls that I know. He wants to help people accomplish their dreams. He wants to serve his community and doesn't ask anything in return. We could not be luckier to have someone like Tim represent us. When you are with Tim's varied group of volunteers you forget that everyone has a different skin color and ethnicity. That says a lot about Tim Scott!!!

Lot of you are claiming that the "liberal media" is stuffing race down our throats and race baiting but same ones of you are the first to jump on a board about illegal immigrants or some random black person that commits a crime and decides to interject race into it. Talk about Mexican and Latinos and how they are all criminals and then rant later about how black people need to do this and black people need to do that, often when the articles have nothing to do with race or history in general but rather involve individuals of a certain race or ethnicity.

You can't have it both ways, if the media is the one doing the race baiting they sure have a lot of you hook, line and sinker. Newt, I agree with you that a person's politics should never be driven by fear, but in all honesty, I see the Democrats as the Party of Fear. The war in Iraq has gone tremendous as compared to Bush's 2001 speeches warning of a 10-20 year war. (no one seems to remember those speeches) The US economy is BY FAR the strongest economy of any nation on earth. And what do we hear from the Democrats? DOOM AND GLOOM. Worried? I'm not worried. I'm not exactly a big McCain fan, but he'll get 55-60% of the vote in November, maybe more.

Senator Obama has been very up front during the campaign about his Christian faith. Only God can judge his heart if indeed he has accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior, but based on his public statements about his faith as well as his actions, it is critical to explore what he believes and see if this man really is a Christian as he claims. What does Senator Obama believe regarding the basic tenets of the Christian faith? What does he believe about salvation?

A Christian, according to the Bible, is a person who has made the conscious choice to accept Jesus Christ as their Savior by faith and follow Him. You CANNOT be a true follower of Jesus Christ and deny the Truth of the Bible. It is inconsistent to say, " I am a Christian," yet live in rebellion to the Bible. It is apparent as you listen to Senator Obama speak about his faith, that he does NOT hold the Bible to be the inspired, inerrant Word of God, representing Absolute Truth and our final authority in all matters. Jesus said, "If you love me you will obey me," and that means His Word!

So what are Senator Obama's beliefs about the most important issue of all, how to be saved? He claims his mother rejected Christ, yet he knows she is in Heaven. He stated in a recent interview, "I believe that there are many paths to the same place." This is the damnable universalistic lie leading millions of souls to hell that there are many roads leading to God. He also said that "he doesn't know if he is going to Heaven, nor does he believe he or anyone will go to Hell." How can you claim to be a Christian, yet not believe in Heaven and Hell?

Please hear me. Like JC Watts, I am a conservative, NOT a Republican. There is a difference. Bush has done things I agree with and things I disagree with. Bush is a moderate, who sometimes leans liberal, sometimes leans conservative. I think you will see the same things from Tim Scott that we have seen from Watts. Scott is a man who is beholden to his ideology, NOT to a party. THAT is what makes him such a promising leader.

It is commendable that Scott served on Charleston County Council for thirteen years and never voted for a tax increase. He does stand for what the Republican Party used to be in terms of conservatism. He is also a great example of how someone who grew up in a working-class, single-parent family worked hard, went to college and started a successful business.

Too bad his business is in insurance. Did he put his conservative ideals into practice to fight against premium increases for his customers? As long as it's not taxes to the government, it must be alright to rape and pillage one's checking account of hard-earned money.

We need black conservatives who can introduce sterilization for welfare queen bills and will oppose Medicaid expansion. They will be able to do this and can't be called racists though they might be tagged Uncle Toms. If the newspapers attack the black conservatives the papers will be perceived as racist. When this happens I will know "times changing" and the liberal welfare/nanny state is in danger. Oh Happy Day! You can't smoke in just any restaurant or in any public building that you pay taxes to support, you can't buy liquor on certain days and you CAN get arrested for dancing naked under a full moon, even in your own back yard. If you are in your house where no one can see you then you can but you CANNOT dance in the open air in the nude without the risk of being arrested. You are losing your freedoms, every time a local, state or federal legislature passes a law you lose a freedom you once had. Don't have to like it, don't have to believe it but it is still true. I notice that the liberals like John Q and Newt deny the facts put in front of them but they offer no evidence to refute the claims they just say "it's not true" or it's "conservative propaganda". Try using some historical evidence instead of blindly denying the truth and maybe, just maybe others may take you more seriously. If all you have is crying and whining and calling people liars, when they are providing documentation for their positions it makes you look foolish. Bring something of substance to the table and not just name calling.

The best you have to counter the claims of the abuses by the liberals over the last four decades is someone talking about Michelle Obama using the word "Whitey". Come on man, some real evidence is historical that proves something did happen, not more denials about what didn't happen. Revisionists always try to change topic or deny the truth. I read parts of Obama's books from Amazon.com and they indicate he was raised in the largest muslim country, at a muslim school, as well as a catholic school but he was enrolled as a muslim, not a catholic. He is by no means a Christian according to the Word of God which is the true source of the definition. If he does not repent and accept Christ he will burn in Hell with his mother whom HE states turned away from Christianity and away from Christ. My gosh if "whitey" is the worst name Michelle Obama has ever called a white person I'll be totally suprised. You say you know about the erosion of our freedoms but you don't want to embrace it? You corrected that Luo is the muslim tribe Obama's first cousin belongs to and that Raila is actually his first name. I yahooed it and then acknowledged that I had gotten the first name wrong and THANKED YOU for correcting me. If not for your correction, I would never have Yahooed "Raila Odinga Sharia Law" and never would have seen the photos of Obama with him. It was because of YOU that I found out the truth about Obama.

I realize someone like you will not be swayed. You have an agenda and I am guessing you are muslim or a card carrying member of the ACLU. Either way, the destruction of this country and our Christian roots is what you seek. My goal is to try to reach people who don't really know Obama, but are voting for him because it makes them feel good to vote for a black man for president (as someone said to me the other day). If I had a chance to vote (can’t b/c not a citizen, yet) I would vote for McCain. He seems to be a good man and his love for his country speaks loud and clear.

But I can see how Obama may end up winning this thang. Call me crazy alright, but the fact that he’s breaking ground as an African-American will buzz big time within the left wing. If I had to guess that number is pretty low. Too many people I know simply don't care to vote when they could.

Our generation (I'm 26) seems too indifferent...(hope I'm wrong).

they even found a giant stash of uranium that they spent weeks getting out of iraq, but because it wasn't enriched yet it wasn't BIG news to those trying to keep the truth down in the name of bashing Bush...

it was several tons of uranium, ricin and other chemicals that they found at different times but amazingly brushed them off as unimportant... I'm still scratching my head over all that

so yes, they found WMD... but they had already turned the page in the news by then and were on to other things, Saddam was already debunked and things were supposidly under control... no need to make a big deal out of big deals

ONe of Saddam's generals was interviewed a few years back and he said he personally escorted two (or 3) planeloads of WMD's to Syria. He said Saddam had an agreement with Syria that if it looked like he was going to be attacked Syria would take the weapons and hide them.He had months to do so. We built up our forces for months before invading, thus giving Saddam plenty of time. My concern is where are those weapons now?

By the way, all Saddam had to do to stay in power was get rid of his WMD's in front of UN weapons inspectors. Why would he kick them out (as he did)and then secretly destroy the weapons?? That would make no sense would it??

Bet the families of all the young women who were yanked off the streets raped and murdered by Saddam's older son are glad they are gone. Bet all the women held in rape rooms are glad they are gone. It was joyous to watch as our soldiers freed them and the children were running down the street with big smiles on their faces.

There is an Iraqi child holding on the the Marines shirt and following right behind the Marine. Why? He knows who the good guy is. The marine!!

Tourture having panties put on ones head (at least they got to keep their head attached), being paraded around naked does not constitute torture. Humilating? Sure! Of course, you know what 7 at of 10 American males said when they heard the female soldier put pantie on the guys head? Why 7 and of 10 men said, "You mean he didn't have to pay for that?"
