Tech support company coming to Lowcountry

The Post and Courier
Tuesday, June 10, 2008

A technical support company that has worked closely with the BMW manufacturing plant in the Upstate plans to create 50 jobs by the end of the year as it expands into the Charleston region.

2AM Group LLC has launched its Lowcountry operation on Fortune Drive in Pepperdam Industrial Park in North Charleston.

The company said it targets automotive, aerospace and marine manufacturers by providing them with outsourced technical services, such as engineering, logistics, parts assembly, inspections and component repairs.

"We're set up the way a manufacturing company is set up; we don't design any products and we don't name-badge any thing. ... It's a partnering situation," said Artie Perry, president and chief executive officer.

2AM Group — its name is an abbreviation of automotive, aerospace and marine — was started in Duncan about two years ago with a multiyear contract with BMW's Greer plant.

"We anticipate additional growth in the automotive, aerospace and marine industries, and view Charleston as a strategic location to continue our successful industry partnerships," Perry said.

2AM Group said in statement that its decision to expand to the coast was helped along by talks with "a number of growth-focused manufacturers" in the area and by the Charleston Regional Development Alliance.

"At the moment we're engaged in conversations with all of the auto parts suppliers and vehicle assemblers," said Perry, who did not identify any potential clients by name.

The Charleston area is home to a growing list of manufacturers that fit into 2AM Group's business plan. They include Bosch Corp., Daimler Vans Manufacturing, American LaFrance, Vought Aircraft Industries Inc., Global Aeronautica, Key West Boats, Scout Boats and Sea Fox Boats.
