Stingrays' new lease with North Charleston Coliseum goes through 2015 season

Wednesday, June 4, 2008

The South Carolina Stingrays announced today a new lease agreement that will keep the ECHL team at the North Charleston Coliseum through the 2015 season.

The Stingrays have played in the North Charleston Coliseum since their inaugural season in 1993. In 15 seasons, the Stingrays have played 534 regular-season games at the North Charleston Coliseum, compiling a record of 327-137-70, drawing almost 3.5 million fans, and consistently averaging over 5,000 fans per game.

As part of the new agreement, the Stingrays will receive a bigger share of the concessions sold during games.

Stingrays president Darren Abbott said the team is also going to submit a bid for the 2010 ECHL All-Star Game. The game would be played in late January 2010.

"It's something that we've been thinking about for a while," Abbott said. "We think the new lease will give us a excellent chance to host the all star game."
