StudentsPlantTheSeed.com is a new Web site to address the fact that an estimated three-quarters of a billion paper documents are processed annually for college admissions nationwide. Students are required by colleges to produce enough paper collectively to circle the globe five times. The site provides a mechanism for students to let high schools and colleges know they want to stop using paper in college admissions. Now, 350,000 students in 1,000 high schools use Connect!, which connects students and admissions officers online and delivers electronic admissions documents, and 175 colleges have joined the network.
